I have an oil-finished leather Akubra Outback that I wear when it's really raining...the water just beads up and runs off. Not very Indyish, but perfect for rainy weather. I bought a relatively inexpensive authentic straw Panama (from Ecuador) to wear in the summer and while I'm waiting on my AB. I ...
I've been mulling over the fact that Indy wears a dark hat while Belloq wears a white hat. I'm trying to think if there's any significance to that. I mean, was Spielberg trying to say something with that? Or was it just the fact that the brown hat looked better with the brown jacket? Storytellers so...
Unfortunately, it's a very natural motion to grab it by the crown, but I guess you need to be very careful to be gentle when grabbing the pinch. The thing is, when you've got a hat in one hand and something else in the other, how do you put the thing on without grabbing the pinch?!? Yours in a pinch...
Somebody recently posted a link to a National Geographic video that showed Harrison Ford flying some of their photogs around. In some of the shots you can see that he's wearing....dare I say it...an earring!
I wouldn't sweat the M1917 thing if I were you. As I understand it, Indy's wasn't an M1917 anyway, it was a Hand Ejector Model II. ( I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong! ) But the HEII and the M1917 are almost dead ringers for each other so, personally, I don't think it's important ...
Cool...thanks for the pointers! I've discovered recently that I'm really into this 30's - 40's retro thing. I've always like fedoras but until recently, I've never bothered to buy one. Which is really strange considering the number of hats I have laying around! The fedora, the jacket, these w...
I don't think that Indy would wear an expensive watch, gotta remember he is a teacher. If anything I could see him wearing some knockoff he picked up from a street vendor  Yes, but he was a teacher who was also running around "obtaining rare antiquities" :D I'm sure he was well paid ...
Now if I can just figure out a good way to get these empty cases out of these moon clips without ripping my thumbs off... Try this: http://mooncliptool.com/ I bought one of these reissue M1917 last fall and I love it. Actually, it's the same as the Model 22 with the exception of the barrel length, ...
I may have missed this (I did search but came up empty) but does anyone know of any good books specifically about hand-made men's hats and the various bashes/techniques?
I took the page from Frames Direct to my eye doctor and they ordered them for me, so I had the benefit of a trained professional fitting them to my head. Be advised, though, that those glasses are big! I like the frames but the cable temples were just too huge for my head! I had to go with regular t...
I don't wear my holster in "public". I do wear it around the farm with a fully loaded Smith and Wesson reissue M1917, .45 ACP with either hollow points or shot shells. Lots of pesky coyotes, rattlers, and poachers around these parts!
The ad says they are "whipcord fabric". According to the definitions of textiles at apparelsearch.com, "Whipcord is a strong worsted or cotton fabric made of hard-twisted yarns with a diagonal cord or rib". It is a little different than your run-of-the-mill khakis, but who wants ...
I bought two pair, one khaki, one charcoal, and I think they're awesome! Absolutely the best pairs of $19 pants I've ever bought! :D They're great for the office, but I, too, didn't think about the wool requiring dry cleaning. I guess others don't agree but they're they best pair of khakis I've ever...
Yeah, that sounds like an...uh...interesting thing to do to your hat. I've read about using a damp cloth to clean your hat, but I was assuming they meant damp with water, not anything any more volatile. Did you read about this somewhere?
Can I count the two that I have on order? I just ordered an AB because I really, REALLY want a cool fedora! Then I read Kaplan's thread about his new Belloq Panama and it looked so good, I ordered one of those, too. (I'm a little compulsive!) I figure the Panama will be great for Georgia summers whe...
Thanks, rcinlv! That's a great set of pics. It's amazing to watch the basic hat blank turn into a finished piece. You're right. It's here, in case anyone else is interested. http://www.indygear.com/cow/viewtopic.php?t=22381&highlight=making Marc's tutorial is awesome! By Marc's calculation, it t...
Ok, now that I've committed myself to a really nice , really expensive hat, let me demonstrate my newbie-ness by asking the following question. Would someone direct me to a good website(s) that would explain the hatmaking process and some of the terminology that flies around here like snow outside a...
To go back to your original post, and sorry if I missed this somewhere, but what sort of degree are you working on and how would you connect Crockett with Indiana Jones? Just curious...
I'm sure you guys are right, but for some reason I'm more nervous about shelling out that kind of money for a hat than I was for my Wested...or my reissue M1917!
Ok, I finally did it...I placed an order for an Adventurebilt. You guys better be right!!! I opted for the seaplane gray and the seaplane bash...I want it to be sorta "dressy"...gonna wear it to the office!
Jeez, I really am an amatuer at this! I only have one...a Wested LC lambskin. Which I love to death and intend to be buried in! When I was a kid and the first movie came out, I commandeered my Dad's military flight jacket (an A2, I think, it had a furry collar) and wore it almost to pieces. It's sti...
Ok, I'm sorry I'm new and don't understand, but could someone explain the difference between an AB and an AB Deluxe? Also, who is Steve and who is Marc?
I don't know if you really should be worried...I wasn't expecting mine for at least another week. It was a little disturbing, though, that I didn't get an email saying the jacket had been shipped. Still, the jacket looks great and came in sooner than I expected.
Oh, Happy Day! :D The mailman came to my door this beautiful rainy morning and what did he have in his crusty little hands? A puffy white mailing envelope from Great Britain! Woo Hoo!! I ordered an LC, brown lambskin, cotton body lining, satin sleeve lining, and underarm gussets added. As noted by s...
