Very nice hat. No adverse effects from sitting on it? I'm looking at getting a panama hat for the summer -- it gets a little hot here for a felt hat and I'm tired of ruining baseball caps by soaking them with sweat (not an issue right now -- today it's 1 degree F here with a windchill of -19 degrees...

I'm no expert on screen accurate whips -- I'll leave that to others. If you are talking about actually using such a whip indoors, however, unless you have a large space with high ceilings, a 6 foot whip is going to be too long. Even with a 5 foot whip, I have left a number of marks on my ceiling. A ...

That's a great looking fedora, Magnum. I can sympathize with the Indiana winter, but this is my back door after a snowstorm this week... http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r48/pds61/P1010124.jpg . And that probably seems lame to the people around Oswego, where they have in the neighborhood of 12 FEE...

I'm pretty much a rookie at this, but that is a nice bash and a great looking hat. Seeing your earlier pictures in a suit reminds me of how I looked around the time when I got married (except for the hat). I'm now balder and fatter, but at least now I have the hat. Too bad I wasted so much time sinc...

Welcome lasher. I'd love to see a picture or two of your whip. Terry Jacka's are supposed to be among the finest. Once you get hooked on the fun of cracking, you'll want more. You'll probably end up with an Indy-style whip before too long. Not to mention a hat (or six), jacket(s), shoes... You get t...

Nice hats, chewie! I love the chocolate color of the JPD compared to the federation. On the other hand, it may just be my taste, but I really like the bash you have on the fed. The way the top of the pinch comes down farther than usual and the side bashes seem to curve up -- it seems like it makes t...

GC, I think getting a whip from Gus is a good option. I got a whip from him last year. It is a wood handled 5 footer in roohide. I think it is one of his first roo whips. It isn't Indy style, but it is a nice whip. It's great for target work. You need to get yourself a whip and start cracking. Once ...

Nice hat! I just recently did my first bash myself. I couldn't do a center dent that deep, though. Mine touches the top of my head as it is. :D It's funny -- it seems like it's so easy to put in a nice bash that looks good, yet you can drive yourself crazy trying to get the perfect look. Nice work, ...

Many thanks for the compliments! I took one set of pictures first, and when I looked at them I noticed how gray they looked. I then took a second group of pictures, which is much more accurate regarding the color, and in fact the hat is even a bit darker brown. I'm not sure why they came out so diff...

My first bash (with pics)
I just got this Akubra. It is about a size too large, but I decided to keep it and hope it shrinks to the right size rather than send it back to Australia and wait for another one. For the next one I'll know better. In the mean time, I made my first attempt at bashing a hat. I don't think it is quit...

Jabahutt70 is a member here who makes nylon whips out of parachute cord. I have one and it is a quality whip and a lot of fun to crack. If you contact him, I'm sure you can get one made in brown to look Indy-ish. There is also a member called Nylonwhips who was making them, but he may have switched ...

Thanks for the input, guys. I think maybe my head is shaped too much like this http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r48/pds61/cro-magnon2.jpg and it throws off my measuring . I need to get the hang of that before I get around to ordering something like an AB. I hope getting the fed figured out w...

Do I need a size smaller?
I just got a new federation and I think I may have goofed on the size. By itself, it is clearly too big. If I use the adjustment padding they give you, it seems to fit alright, although it comes down to the tops of my ears. Will the padding flatten out with time so it gets too big again? They say it...

Greetings. As a newbie who came late to the hobby of whip cracking, I can only look with envy on the fabulous collections some of you members have. I spent the last 15 years or so collecting swords and other medieval-type weapons, so I am way behind the game in collecting whips. In fact, Boggs' coll...
