My New Federation Deluxe
My first attempt ever at bashing..... I don't think it looks too bad...

Nice hat! I just recently did my first bash myself. I couldn't do a center dent that deep, though. Mine touches the top of my head as it is. It's funny -- it seems like it's so easy to put in a nice bash that looks good, yet you can drive yourself crazy trying to get the perfect look. Nice work, and enjoy!

Thanks!Indiana Max wrote:Nice bash, nice hat, well done. (My absolutely favorite) Only one thing, am I right that the top is a bit tapered : Or was this volitional :
Yeah, now that you mention it, there is some taper in the top... thanks for pointing that out...
It will take awhile to get it "just right", but I am liking the direction it is going so far. It is hard to get the Indy "look" that I like.

i thought you were going for your own look on the bash and i wasn't saying that the deep center dent looked bad either.
if you are looking for an indy raiders look, i suggest you shallow up the bash in the front so that the front of the hat is just a little higher than the rear of the hat....this part you'll have to play with as you can get some tapering happening if you push the rear of the center dent down too much. on my fed, both heights are about the same as anymore pushing in the back will taper the sides.
also for raiders, give the hat a bit of a turn on your head so the ribbon is more prominent on the left side when viewed head on. this will also kink the brim the way it was in the movies. you have the luxury here of not having set a tight front pinch yet so you can line that up once you've done your turn. and if you're going to do that, you may want to recenter your center dent as well so that it is in line with the turned hat.
after all that, you should have a fed with the nice raiders look ....or you can just make some minor adjustments with what you have now and go for the TOD look which is clearly the best movie of the 3.
now if anyone needs me, i will be under the plymouth.

Much better My first Indy hat was one of the young Indiana Jones cronicles collection (really bull ####) and I tried many times to make the top like a Fedora, but the material, they called it felt, but it wasn´t felt, was unable to hold this expanded top, so I got my first Akubra Fed. Deluxe and I´m still very happy with that nice hat. You´re absolutely on the right way
