Well, Guys, I've Done It !

Tonight, without the aid of alcoholic support, I sat down and cut the brim and, I must say, it doesn't look too bad to me. Didn't need to use a hobby knife to tidy up, just sandpaper. 1/8 inch really does make a difference. I'm having a few problems with steaming the brim. I can't stop it being wavy...

Actually, Ren, that's a great idea! The Akubras always seemed a bit too shallow to me for an Indy hat, so adding it to the crown height could just do the trick! bink Would that really work ? If so, I'll be mailing the hat to Fedora for him to work his magic on it ! I'm terrified of goofing the job ...

Hats Direct to Adopt Fedora's Block ?

Is this correct ?
What are the implications for the Fed in terms of crown height and brim width ?
If I'm not dreaming all of this and Hats Direct is listening, how about a silverbelly option ? I need one until I can afford an AB !

Thanks, Folks.
Maybe I'll have a couple of slugs of Jim Beam for courage and then have a go.

I'm Too Timid To Cut A Brim

The heading says it all.
I'd like one-eigth inch off my Regular Fed brim.
Anyone in the UK or Europe with the guts and skill (or a brim-cutter) to do it for me, please ?

Fedora Deserves His Own Fan Club

This man is a genius ! I can't thank him enough. I bought an old Dobbs fedora on eBay - you know the story, it looked good in the pictures and I paid way too much for it. When it arrived, it was so tapered that it looked like Chico Marx's hat and the sweatband had dried out and cracked thru. Fedora ...

Mauser

I recently got an airsoft Marushin Mauser Broomhandle. It looks quite good apart from the phony looking wood grips.
A tip if you want one - order from a Hong Kong dealer, it worked out less expensive.

Tawny Fawn Akubra Fed

Maybe I'll go the Adventurebilt route instead of an Akubra if Fedora can do one in light taupe - that way I can get it with a custom width brim and a 6 inch crown !

Tawny Fawn Akubra Fed

Tawny Fawn Akubra Fed

Anyone tried an Akubra Fed in Tawny Fawn ? What's the colour like ? Is it light brown or is it orangy ? If it's close to a light taupe color, I'm interested.

Ageing Plastic Airsoft Guns

Although airsofts are OK on shape they do look, well, kind of plasticky.
Has anyone got experience of "ageing" them so they look worn and more authentic ? Can they pass on some pointers please ?

Just saying Hi !

Thanks for the welcome, folks. My hats are - Akubra Fed, mid brown- I'm delighted with this, I only heard about the Fed thanks to all you fellows. 40's Dobbs in sage green - Fedora's about to renovate this one for me (it's on its way, Steve) 30's (?) Stetson Twenty in silver gray with a 2 inch ribbo...

Just Saying Hi !

I'm a new English member saying hello to you all. A bit like the Remington shaver man, I liked COW so much I had to join it.
I'm a dedicated fedora wearer but usually with a business suit, so my son says I look like a Raiders Nazi rather than Indy - but who cares ?!!!
