Although airsofts are OK on shape they do look, well, kind of plasticky.
Has anyone got experience of "ageing" them so they look worn and more authentic ? Can they pass on some pointers please ?

You could always repaint it.
You can use standard acrylic spray paints to get a great look on most airsoft guns. Cheap and easy.
Alternatively, buy a little tin of humbrol silver paint and add a bit of weathering here and there on the gun, as if the metal is showing through. I've aged quite a few guns and blasters like this and it always looks very effective - and its easy too.
