Re: Modern S&W M22 1917 ???

You'll also find that they build these on the N-frame round butt. For whatever reason, when Smith was owned by an overseas company back in the late 80's/early 90's, all the dies and machinery to make square butt N-frames were ordered destroyed. ](*,) So, these are as close to the originals as we're...

Re: M1911

I've boiled 1911's in water. Scrubbed them afterwards with a toothbrush and Palmolive soap. Then rinsed them in boiling water. Used a blow dryer and towels to get rid of all the water. Then rubbed everything down with 5w 30 motor oil. Toweled off the excess oil before reassembly. 1911's are just too...

I too have the Thunder Ranch. I tried the stock magnas, then I added the Tyler, Meh...Then I got a pair N-frame target grips...bingo! As far as ammo, keep it simple. Any standard 230 grain load will do about the same. I handload, so I've found my sweet spot. Instead of 230 grain FMJ I use 230 round ...

I would like to say that your ammo should be .45 ACP 230 grain FMJ loaded to normal speed of 830-850 f.p.s.. POI should be POA 10 yards in.

Considering the 1917 was NEVER created to be a 'comfortable' shooting gun in the first place, the .45 ACP IS a punishing round in those old Smiths. As an aside, my Model 22 shoots point of aim with 230 grain loads. LRN is a RCH more accurate then FMJ.

200 grain SWC and 185 grain JHP shoot a bit low, but not so much that it can't be dealt with.
