Re: Modified Raiders/LC Bashed Akubra Fed IV Deluxe
Well done! If you're really feeling ambitious, you could remove the tack stitches from the ribbon and re-stitch them (one at a time) with matching dark brown thread, and you can adjust the bow and knot shape while you are at it. Since you already removed the lining, you might as well give it a try....

The crown is very pliable. The brim is still stiff.Jeremiah wrote:Great job.
How stiff does this one feel? I just recently acquired an Akubra (non Indy style) at a flea market for a song and dance(see my thread in beaver felt). It's pretty stiff but mine is more of a western style.

Modified Raiders/LC Bashed Akubra Fed IV Deluxe
Fellow Bashers: I present for your consideration my recent efforts with a new Fed IV. This is my first attempt at bashing my own. Much appreciation to BendingOak and several others for the tips. Your thoughts and suggestions are appreciated. My only complaint about the Akubra is the plastic top of t...

Re: Remove liner before bashing Fed IV Deluxe?
i like the liners but not wild about the plastic. Here's what I do. 1. Remove the liner. 2. Take pair of scissors, start a whole and cut along the stitching. 3. Remove the plastic, then pull the perforated end along the stitching on the backside. Great way to remove the plastic and keep the liner a...

Re: Remove liner before bashing Fed IV Deluxe?
About to bash a new Fed IV Deluxe. I know I want to permanently remove the liner. Do you recommend removing the liner first? Thanks If you are going to remove it anyways why not, it will not affect the bashing process, might make it easier so you can actually reach the felt from inside and not have...

Re: Seeking Advice on Fed IV Deluxe sizing
Gentlemen: I am most appreciative of your counsel. I did some additional testing. Even with the foam in, I went out into the wind and couldn't keep the hat on my head. I'm going to order one size down and compare them before I make a permanent decision. I'm about to go out to Utah and spend some tim...

Seeking Advice on Fed IV Deluxe sizing
I ordered a Fed IV Deluxe from The Hattery, down under. Arrived very quickly. Great color. Very nice. I just took it out of the box, and it fell down on my ears. There was a foam strip wrapped around the outside ribbon in the box. I trimmed a bit of it off, and it actually fits inside the leather he...

Re: My DM Akubra Adventurer
I would always suggest putting in the center crease in first then anything else. Once in place make sure in the front the center crease is at 4 1/2 inches and around 4" in the back depending on the brand. Then lightly put in the front punch. Then each side one by one. Tweaking as you go. The b...

AB Crown Height ROTLA v. TOD v. LC?
Fedora:
First of all, very glad you made it through Katrina without serious harm.
I was wondering how the height of the crown for AB models varied by movie style. What is the range between Raiders, Temple and Crusade?
Thanks.
Tom

I'm about to buy a new Wested for the express purpose of distressing to a ROTLA type finish. Based on your experience, which leather would you use and why??
Thanks.

I have both a Cliffhanger and an AB. The AB is definitely a more Raider's style body (although Fedora can turn out about any hat from the series you favor -- mine actually has a Raider's body and a LC brim). My Cliffhanger beaver had a very TOD shape out of the box. It is slightly tapered. The ribbo...

I have stopped at almost every WalMart from north central Georgia across I20 through central Alabama. There are very few of the sidewalk colored shirts left. Most are 2xx or 3xx. BE CAREFUL ABOUT PICKING UP THE SHIRTS! There are two other versions of the shirt. One is a brushed cotton (I think it is...

I'm relatively new to this so I can't vouch for V1 vs. V2, except I know that a recent Wells Lamont model discussed on COW has a reinforced palm. I'll describe what I saw: Two visibly different models. One is a natural (almost no color to the leather) with a small stitched cloth border around the cu...

Wells Lamont 1130 at KMart
Just spotted several pairs of Wells Lamont 1130's (no reinforced palm) in either neutral or orangish-tan in KMart for $12.95.
