Herbert Johnson -info update

I thought I would start a new thread as the last one was getting really long and I didn't want it to get too buried. So what is the deal with Herbert Johnson hats? Are they now back to their "original" condition and have they passed the scrutiny of those here at Indy Gear? I am curious as ...

I have the exact problem, when I got my jacket home from Wested I noticed a pen streek on it. I tried the milk thing but it didn't work. I posted something about this earlier but no luck. I called a few dry cleaners but they all said they may damage the jacket getting it off. If anyone know's a good...

help with cleaning a jacket

I just noticed I have a big ink pen mark on my Wested Raiders jacket. Does anyone have a good way I can clean this off without ruining the jacket?

I just got the jacket and will feel much better if I can get this off.

Thanks,
Belle

most accurate holster

I tried searching for this thread but didn't have much luck. I have a question on holsters, which is the most screen accurate holster available? I know Noel Howard got the holsters for the movies and used to make some available. I noticed a little difference on the strap closure from the raiders scr...

It's that kind of thing that makes me worried about trying to age gear.

All this talk about rain and the jacket makes me wonder if anyone has bothered to treat their hat (e.g. scotchguard)? Any thoughts?

aging a hat

I have a Herbert Johnson Poet, I picked it up right before Richard retired. I am thinking about trying to age it but I am a little worried as replacing it would be difficult. Does anyone have any advice on how to age/shape a hat to get it screen accurate and give it a good weathered look? I know peo...

Hey, So when I place my foot on the brannock device my big toe is on the 9 1/2 mark while my other toes are at about 9. Let's say for argument sake I'm a 9. I had originally ordered a 9, thinking I was a 9.5, and I had to send them back because they were too long. Then I got the 8.5 but to be honest...

Hey, A note on the sizing for Aldens. I wear a size 9-9 1/2 shoe (9 1/2 on a Brannock foot-measuring device) and I have to say, I ordered a 8 1/2 and if was to do it again, I would definately go down 1/2 a size. These boots fit big so if there is anyway you can try a pair I would recomend it. Otherw...

Hey I'd love to see the finished product when you're done. I dyed my holster but I'm not so pysched on the color it turned out, still a bit to light.

Just wondering how most of you display your gear? Do youi keep it in a case or on a mannequin? If you go the mannequin route, were did you find one? I'd love to see pic's.

wested color choice

I know this topic has been touched upon in the past but I wasn't able to find the thread so I thought I would ask the experts. I've noticed that the 'authentic brown' lambskin looks a little lighter than the jacket color seen in the movies, espcially Radiers. But I have also noticed that when people...

I see what you guys mean, but check out the scene in Raiders in Sallah's courtyard when Indy first meets him (I'd post an image but I have no clue how to do it). Allot of my collars turn up after age, espectially if there is no tabs in them to keep them in place, but the corners in his shirt seem to...

So when you guys dye your stuff, i.e. bag strap, gun holster, etc., you haven't experienced any problems with the dye running, especially if it gets wet from rain or sweat?

dying a bag strap

I'm thinking of dying my bag strap and a thought had crossed my mind -will the dye run? I'm wondering if anyone has experienced the dye running at all once they have made the effort to change the color? I have a strap from MBA and feel the color is not dark enough.

Just curious,

I noticed that Indy's shirt collar has a bit of an up-turn at the end. Does anyone know how this is done or is it simply a result of age?

Yeah I was wondering about the color difference myself. It seems one may be made from the authentic lambskin, while the other was lambskin (as per the comparisons on the Wested page). Are these the same jackets?

Thanks GCR,

Did you use any special type of polish or will any black and brown do? Also, did you treat the belt with Pecards as a final dressing?

Hey GCR, Nice job on the distressing. I have a Noel Howard bag and strap that I would like to distress, what tips do you have (i.e. what polish works best, did you use sandpaper and if so what grit). Also, did you re-dye the shirt? If so, did you follow the directions on the site? I like the results...

Lee Keppler vs. Noel Howard

This is an old topic I'm sure but I am new to the site so bear with me. In your opinion, which is a better holster (keeping in mind authenticity and accuracy to the films) the Keppler or the Howard? I know they are both great products but did Lee Keppler supply the original Raiders holster or did No...

Thanks for the link. I am thinking of getting a David Morgan whip. As mentioned on the site it seems 10 feet is the standard whip carried in the films, however, aside for the increased cost, the 8 foot whip seems consistant with many elements in the film. I guess one of the main disadvantages is how...

whip photos

I notice there is much debate about what length is best suited for a whip purchase. It seems 8 feet is the optimal length for use and accuracy, while 10 feet perhaps stays true to the original carried in the films. I was wondering if anyone has photos to compare what each one looks like coiled up in...
