Re: Critique My Indy Hat Project

MikeMac, I apologize for the delay in getting back to you. I'm from Tampa Fl, and the hurricane has made this week a little crazy. I have made a couple blocks and I am just going to be honest and say I may or may not of done it all correctly but in the end I have been able to successfully reblock an...

Re: Critique My Indy Hat Project

It's got a pre-cut vintage Poet Dr. WHO vibe about it. I like it. Brim/Crown ratio also looks in tune with the current adjustment norms. Are you going to put these out there for purchase? It's a very good-looking hat. Bantufo, thanks for the compliment. I'm not a vender but I have sold a few hats h...

Re: Critique My Indy Hat Project

Here are some pics of the raw body I'm using. Its sable and 100% rabbit. I like the color a lot. I was using old cowboy hats and any thing else I could get my hands on for a while. It was good practice at first but I do enjoy the start to finish process of making it from the raw body. https://i.imgu...

Re: Critique My Indy Hat Project

3 years old or not, I'm back at it. I must admit I haven't done much with hats for a while. Just the occasional reblock. But it's funny this thread was dug up just the other day because I had just recently decided to make another couple hats and received my hat bodies in the mail 2 days ago. Already...

Re: Post your Adventurebilts here!

Whether KS was a disappointment or not I think the thing that could still continue to make Adventurebilt hats collectible is the fact that the hats were made by a fan for the movies. That and the KS bash is a great bash (probably the second best in my opinion). And on top of that, it's my understan...

Re: HJ Bowler and Raiders Hat Comparison

So, once again, is it possible that the screen used Raiders hats did not have actual satin liners but just a satin label glued on the inside?

Re: HJ Bowler and Raiders Hat Comparison

The hat arrived today and I was finally able to get a better look at the color and take some photos. Most of my photos were taken outside with direct sunlight. I also took some photos to compare the color of this HJ hat with my Northwest Indy fedora and a Akubra Fed. just to give everyone an idea of...

Re: HJ Bowler and Raiders Hat Comparison

From what I can tell Pantone 476c is probably the closest. 4625c and 2322c are also right there. However, I haven't received the hat yet in the mail. I just have the sellers photos to go off of. So I will have to double check when it arrives.

HJ Bowler and Raiders Hat Comparison

Just bought this on eBay. I was just casually looking at Herbert Johnson listings when I stumbled upon this. Obviously not a Poet or Indy hat, but what really caught my eye were 3 things. #1 Sweatband with HJ address. It has the 13 Old Bond St. on the sweatband. My understanding is that this was mad...

Re: Northwest Post Em

Sorry for the late reply. I received my hat about a month and a half ago. This is my first custom-made hat. Mike did a great job and the hat looks fantastic. Nicely pounced and fits great. Something to note about Northwests Cairo hats is that if you are looking for an Indy hat that is very screen ac...

Re: Critique My Indy Hat Project

3thoubucks, Thanks for the advice. I haven't gotten there yet but might give that a try in the near future. I've gathered some supplies to build a hat from scratch and will be starting that pretty soon. I'll try to post pics of the process. I've been reblocking olds hats for just about 6 months now....

Re: Critique My Indy Hat Project

Just wanted to post an update. These are still old hats that I've reblocked. Hoping to build one from scratch soon. Just collecting the needed supplies and studying up. Then the fun can begin. This one is brown even though the lighting makes it look more green. This is a Stetson with a Petersham gro...

Re: The Perfect Height for a Raiders Hat.

Jason,
I know that this thread is focused on the height of the crown (which is all excellent research and information), but I'm curious about the brim and whether the width of the dimensional cut would change depending on the hat size? Do a size 56 and 60 both have the same width or does it graduate?

Re: Northwest Post Em

I ordered a Raiders from Mike when they were still $250 for beaver. Super nice deal. His hats look fantastic from what I can tell. I was supposed to get mine this past week but he told me the other day that because his dark brown felt has been on back order for weeks it will be another week or so. W...

Re: Critique My Indy Hat Project

Here are 3 more hats that I have rebashed. Let me know what you guys think. Heres a crazy story. I put the gray hat on eBay and someone ended up buying it almost right away. I was thrilled to see how quickly it was sold and then was even more thrilled when I saw that the shipping name and address be...

Re: Critique My Indy Hat Project

I don't know if this has been covered somewhere else, but just in case. Does anyone have any experience or knowledge about whether polyester or cotton (or maybe some other fabric) is the better way to go for ribbons on a hat? If so, what are the biggest differences? Which is stronger and lasts longe...

Re: Critique My Indy Hat Project

I appreciate all the helpful input. I took some time today to sand down my hat block and round out the curves on top. I'm hoping this will help those sides to be a bit more straight when I put the center dent in the hat. Here are some pictures of the updated block. https://i.imgur.com/cK0R68q.jpg ht...

Re: Critique My Indy Hat Project

Dr. Jones, Jr., Thanks for the critique. I've reworked that side of the hat a bit and it I think it looks a bit more straight. However, I'm thinking I probably need to make some adjustments to my hat block for it to really have that straight Raiders look though. Indiana Jeff, Agreed, it is a challen...

Critique My Indy Hat Project

Hi All, This is my first time posting on here. I'm looking for some helpful tips and critiques for a project I've been working on. I have been researching about hat making for about a year now and decided it was time to get my hands on a hat and just have some fun. I recently purchased 2 cowboy hats...
