Replacing D-Rings With Sliders?
I'm notorious for flip-flopping on my ca. 1998 Wested Raiders. This week I currently love it.
Some of the things I can overlook on it are the satin lining and pocket flaps but the D-rings really bother me for some reason.
Do any vendors offer replacement sliders and how hard are they to swap out?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Replacing D-Rings With Sliders?
very very very very easy. I have done this a 100 times.
Just turn the D rings inside out and bend them apart and chimey them out of the loop.

Re: Replacing D-Rings With Sliders?
someone here found a site with the perfect size, I think it was Dr. J...
I have been wanting to swap mine as well, and flipping the D-rings has never worked to hold the straps for me.
telling someone to google it defeats the purpose of this site, doesn't it?? JMO

I only said where I thought cassidy could look. you speak as if this site has an answer to everything. If it did, it probably would answer me about why you keep throwing out those 'smart ###' posts of yours. JMO

Why don't they just use sliders instead of D-Rings for wEsted and US Wings if they know that is what was used? Is it more expensive to do sliders?

Re: Replacing D-Rings With Sliders?
With Wested, its sort of up to the person. If you choose the thinner lamb hide, its better to get the rectangular loops, as they do not source the rectangular sliders. Possibly a cloth store near you might have the sliders, or as some spec. it: tri-glide strap adjusters.
Re: Replacing D-Rings With Sliders?
right,
I have always have had problems with the D rings slipping on a lamb jacket. lamb is a pretty limp skin and tends to slip. Horse, cow, goat works fine with D rings.

Yep. Either one are SA as well as both were used in the film, so it's up to the buyer which way they want to go.

You may also try contacting Wested directly about getting sliders. They tried to send me some in the mail a couple of years ago but the envelope ripped and the sliders fell out. A member here graciously sent me a set.

I have been looking for sliders (or tri-glides) like that for the longest time!
Just bought 4 of them (never know when you might screw up the first set!) in nickel for my Wested Raiders.
Cassidy,
The easiest way I have found to install sliders with a center bar is to cut a small piece out of the center bar (just large enough for the leather to squeeze through). That way you don't have to cut or unstitch the leather loop to get them on.

I think this was mentioned a year or two ago, but you can get them here in any color you want...

Just like the ones Wested has.Forrest For the Trees wrote:I think this was mentioned a year or two ago, but you can get them here in any color you want...

But in terms of SA (please, somebody correct me if I'm wrong) tri-bar slides in black is the way to go. The original Raiders jacket examined by TN had those...right?
Re: Replacing D-Rings With Sliders?
yes, right. those too. but Rec-sliders and D-rings were confimred to be on the jackets aswell.

Re: Replacing D-Rings With Sliders?
If I'm not mistaken, the movie jackets were originally made with D-rings, but the straps kept pulling out, so they used these other fasteners.

I got my black rect. sliders from Wested. Quick tip, wrap nose of pliers in tape if you use pliers.
