Wested Deal
Out of respect for Peter, I decided to delete the post that I transferred here about Peters jacket, trousers, and shirt "deal".
Obviously it was a farce, and hopefully COW has "Top Men" working on it as we speak.

Would that be a good "blah" or a bad "blah?"
Does this mean he can't ship jackets to the US anymore, without buying pants? This doesn't make sense. I searches all over the Internet and I can't find a single news story on this. What is the deal?As a result of this embargo Wested Leather will cease sending jackets to the USA from 05 Dec

How would sending shirts or pants negate an order to not send a jacket? Is someone posing as Peter?
This makes no sense and would cripple some busineses (especially Peter's).
OR
Maybe he got upset and had gone to the pub before writing this? (Don't take offense Peter, just trying to rationalize this weirdness).

Okay, I'm curious. Though I haven't found anything definite on the interent searches, I did come across the following. The link is to a PDF file I stumbled across while trying to research UK's Food and Fisheries Department. It's several years old, but may point to a possibility:
http://www.defra.gov.uk/animalh/int-trd ... pe0103.pdf
Is there a current breakout of hoof and mouth disease or the like in the UK? The last time this happened, animal products INCLUDING SKINS AND HIDES were prohibited for trade (unless certain proceedures for the skins were followed). I don't know much about the disease, but if it can be carried via animal skins, I could see why they'd want to halt things for a bit. However, this should also mean that the restrictions should be temporary, though who knows how long they could last.
So maybe Peter's current batch could be "infected" or they just want to be sure the hides were made before or after a certain date. Who knows? But it could be a possible theory right now.

DUH! I think it is just Peter having a little fun giving people a Christmas discount if they order all three items. I wouldn't suggest stayin' up late tonight just to catch this story on the late evening news.
...ummm, why would the rules for shipping a leather jacket with a pair of pants and a shirt be any different than shipping a leather jacket by itself?

I hope so, Bufflehead! I'm not sure how to read Peter's post. If he's just joshing us, I hope he can tell us so just to clarify things. I'd hate for it to be true, though! After all, he did say it only affects the US gearheads and not gearheads elsewhere around the globe. The whole "diseased skins" thing could be the farthest from the truth, too, for all I know. I just posted it as a theory until we find out what's really going on.

If he's saying the date in general, my guess is 5 December 2004. They write the date differently than we do (or maybe we're doing it wrong? ) They'd essentially write 5/12/04 to our 12/5/04. Or a least when they spell out the date... I'm just hoping he's trying to be coy about Christmas specials on the trio. If not, then I'm glad I already own a Wested!

It has to be rubish. If this was true then the formidable military jacket company, Aero Leather, would not be able to ship leather jackets as well. Aero Leather is based in Scotland.
Indeed, clarification on this posting is needed.

First off, it's not Wested's fault. They're being penalized by something that is beyond their control. Second, the repercussions will be felt far beyond the IndyGear community, I can assure you.
Do they really expect to stop every American tourist at Heathrow Airport and tell them that they can't take home that leather jacket, pair of shoes or gloves that they bought as a souvenir because of an export embargo that they are probably unaware of? I don't think so.
Believe me, there's no quicker way to *tick* somebody off than telling them they can't have something they want, and UK customs is going to find out the hard way. It will be interesting to see how fast the British leather industry is crippled by the loss of profits made from export sales to the United States. I predict that it is only a matter of time before they change their tune.

Guys this has to be a bunch of @#$%. Think about it. What is the worst thing to a bunch of Indy fans who are all eaten up with a gear fetish? Not being able to get THE jacket from THE man himself right before Christmas! I suspect someone guessed Peter's login name and made a bogus post. I mean our sign on names are out in the open and a password is not too hard to crack. Maybe the Site admin can compare IP addresses and confirm this. Also the language is just horribly garbled at the end. I suspect a non native english speaker... Nothing against any non native speakers by the way- Just probably an over extended theory. I love my international brothers and sisters out there. This just has to be bogus. What do you say Watson?
Sherlock Holmes out.
Sherlock Holmes out.
Very interesting theory - I think it's more likely actually than that "just a Christmas special" idea, because it's kind of a mean joke, don't you think? If it is a joke - it's probably making a couple people cry right now, heheheh... I think we need an Admin IP check. Definately. The pants are definately Calvary Twill, and Peter used the word "haver" incorrectly, as well as spelling his name in inverse caps (i.e. pETER), and to top it off - didn't use a question mark for that last question, "Am I mad."Fletch wrote:I suspect someone guessed Peter's login name and made a bogus post. Gotta be a hacker trying to take away his business. What happens if somebody tries to order a jacket, pants, and shirt combo right now, identifies it as "Peter's Offer," and Peter doesn't know what they're talking about, because it was a hacker, not him, that informed us? Then the gearhead, feeling ignored or shunned by Peter, reports terrible customer relations, and Peter loses business. What was that other company that had Peter's jacket pictures on their site, advertising it as their own design? Excuse me if I'm wrong, but I think it was an Arab run company (not to sound racist - just to help identify the correct company... there may have been more than one that I'm not familiar with).
In Christ,
Shane

Let me be the first to say, surprisingly, that assuming Peter was being serious and in his right mind, which I consider an assumption worth consideration at the very least, then he will be mightily offended if and when he reads our response to this. Criticizing his language, grammar, motive, and state of mind is not the way to go about this gentlemen. I know you're just spitballing, but this is an open forum, and re-reading some of your posts I think you'll agree with me when I say it could be read by Peter as being very offensive.
Let's watch what we say, try to remember all that Peter has done for us, and give him the benefit of the doubt, something that he has shown us he is willing to do for us, over and over again.

EDIT: HOLD THE FRONT PAGE - I'VE CALLED PETER AND THERE IS SOMETHING GOING ON HERE.
More later...

OK, here's the score - Peter didn't make that post and in his own words, 'It's a load of c**p' - he's not too happy about it, let me tell you.
Peter's having a new internet connection installed today (so can't get online himself) and it looks like someone has hacked in and/or posted this as some sort of hoax - Peter asks that everyone please disregard the post entirely and that one of our mods (Peter asked for Michaelson) to delete the post entirely.
I'll contact Michaelson, but I know he's not around here weekends so if one of our other mods sees this thread, PLEASE DELETE "PETER'S" ORIGINAL POST in the sticky jacket thread.
And that's the end of that one - however, the mystery of who made the post remains, so everyone please be aware of potential hacking - might be worth changing your passwords this weekend if it's something fairly obvious (ie INDIANAJONES or RAIDERS or something like that).
Regards,
Al

MAN! I think it probably IS a good idea to change your password if this kind of account hijacking is going on. I knew something wasn't right. Yeah, if there is a way to trace this thing to find out who did it, I think appropriate action is called for. And if, by the unfortunate chance, this is a member of this forum, serious consequences are called for.
