For some time now I've wanted to exchange my old gun belt's buckle and keeper to a full brass version. I know brass is not really SA, but I have a thing for brass objects. I kept an eye out for a set that I would like and last week I finally found them both at the same shop as some roohide and ordered them.
When I got them though, they did not fit my old belt. I had cut it at 40 mm width and the holes were to small. Rather than start cutting it up, I took the opportunity to make a new one entirely. Anyway the old one was much too dark for my taste. I took care to dye it a lighter shade of brown and after finishing it, I played around a bit to give it some nice striations. I am really liking the way it turned out. I am hoping the brass is not laquered so that it will age nicely.
Here you see a close up of the striations:
And here is the setup with my recent Raiders holster and my old whip holder:

Thank you so much, WConly! Brass is very nice and the way it ages and gets a patina is very satisfying!

Re: New Raiders gun belt
Beautiful work as always
Looks great with the holster! The color of the belt reminds me of the color of my WPG Raiders gun belt.
I love the idea of using brass for the buckle. I think it looks more period accurate for the time Raiders is set in. It reminds me of how they tried to make the zipper on the Raiders jacket look brass with paint. The brass buckle makes the gun belt look very 30s era to me!

I did not know that tidbit about the Raiders jacket, very cool. And brass zippers on a leather jacket are awesome.
Yeah, brass makes me think of a time when stuff was sturdier and made do last. Not that steel buckles aren't tough, I am just thinking of all the pot-metal modern buckles.
