For some time now I've wanted to exchange my old gun belt's buckle and keeper to a full brass version. I know brass is not really SA, but I have a thing for brass objects. I kept an eye out for a set that I would like and last week I finally found them both at the same shop as some roohide and ordered them.
When I got them though, they did not fit my old belt. I had cut it at 40 mm width and the holes were to small. Rather than start cutting it up, I took the opportunity to make a new one entirely. Anyway the old one was much too dark for my taste. I took care to dye it a lighter shade of brown and after finishing it, I played around a bit to give it some nice striations. I am really liking the way it turned out. I am hoping the brass is not laquered so that it will age nicely.
Here you see a close up of the striations:
And here is the setup with my recent Raiders holster and my old whip holder:
Looks great with the holster! The color of the belt reminds me of the color of my WPG Raiders gun belt.
I love the idea of using brass for the buckle. I think it looks more period accurate for the time Raiders is set in. It reminds me of how they tried to make the zipper on the Raiders jacket look brass with paint. The brass buckle makes the gun belt look very 30s era to me!

Thank you, WNY Indy, glad you like it!
I did not know that tidbit about the Raiders jacket, very cool. And brass zippers on a leather jacket are awesome.
Yeah, brass makes me think of a time when stuff was sturdier and made do last. Not that steel buckles aren't tough, I am just thinking of all the pot-metal modern buckles.

I liked by brass setup so much, that I decided to make the whip holder with brass snaps as well and use a light brown die for the leather:
And I also made a snap on belt whip holder for the whip I usually carry on adventures:
Hope you like it!
Cheers,
Bear
This is awesome! I love the look of the brass. It just looks perfect for a "real life" Indy set up. I think that your entire Raiders rig with the gunbelt, holster, and whip holder, is the best I've ever seen.
I love the idea of a whip holder that can snap onto the belt, I've never seen anyone else do that. And that whip is awesome too! The things you make and post on here are always a huge inspiration to me. Amazing work as always, my friend!

Wow, beautiful and well made. You often do leather work ?
Thanks Jonesy! I would say yes, it's my main hobby, though in the last months I haven't done much. I had quite a few Indy projects last year and now I don't have much inspiration for others.

Thank you, WNY Indy! This means a lot coming from a fellow craftsman!
I got the idea of the snap on holder from MakeItJones. He did it first and then it was actually used for the DoD props, if I remember correctly. I had made one with a belt clip a while back, but the clip was a bit rough on the leather belt.

Well done, Bear. Ever considered doing a brass bag strap buckle? You could complete your All Brass Indy.
Thanks, Indiana Jon!
Great gear-head minds think alike! Yes, I definitely have. I actually bought the buckle some months ago and I also got brass rings to upgrade my bag to full brass hardware. I just haven't gotten around to replacing them.
Might do it soon now that jacket weather is ending and I'll be needing the bag for my EDC stuff.
Brass O rings on bags are used in Emperor's Tomb and Great Circle. In great circle there is also brass buckle on bag strap and brass D rings on jacket.
You wouldn't consider making accurate leather gear for inside EU buyers wouldn't you ? Customs became expensive.

I didn't know that, very cool! So it will be somewhat accurate then!
No, not really. Leather working is just a hobby and my stress management method. Doing it for money would kinda take the pleasure out of it for me. I tried it some years ago and it became quite stressful.
When you reference the whip holder being a snap-on, do you mean the loop that the belt goes through has a snap so you could put it on a belt while the belt is buckled?

Yup, exactly. Comes in useful when hiking, biking. I don't take out the whip until it is a somewhat more remote area.

Same here. I usually stuff my whip into bag or backpack and then take it out when in remote area.

Yeah, I put it into my Indy shoulder bag too. Much better like that, not to get weird looks and not to make anyone uncomfortable either.
