What would you want the new Indy Whip to be?

Post by Blake Bruning »

I don't know what they plan on using in the new Indiana Jones Movie, but I was wondering what I would want it to be. I am still on the fence, but I think I would love a change up in the color scheme. So, I ask you all...what would you like to see as the new Indy whip? :-k :whip:

Definitely not a Jacka.
Color? Depends how they reboot this. If younger obviously a more natural tan in the early stages of its life.
However if going for the worn look, I think saddle tan would be dark enough. I do hope they keep it simple and don't do a multi colored plaited belly.

What do I want the new Indy whip to be? Actually used on screen! Otherwise, I'm cool as long as they don't make it a flashy design.

I was going to say exactly the same thing, Chewie! Anything, as long as it gets USED! :whip:

Am I mistaken or does he use it about two times in each of the 4 films?

Not all of the below are Indy 'using' the whip, but they do feature the whip prominently.

ROLA
Disarm Baracca
Tear through the spider web
Swing over the chasm
Cairo fight
Marion burns him thinking it is a snake
Dragged behind a truck

TOD
Choke the Thuggee
Swing from the elephant statue
It is used to lash Indy
Disarm the Thuggee
Retrieve a fleeing Willie

LC
Fend off a lion
Swing from the cables at the castle
Save Henry Sr. on the tank
The Knight comments on Indy's strange dress

CS
Disarm the soldier
Swing from the light
Try to save Mac

I thought he used it a good amount in each movie. I think if he used it anymore then he did it would be too much.

Jeff,

What about:

RotLA
Climbing the statue in the Well of Souls?

ToD
Swinging from catwalk to catwalk by lashing whip around hanging light?

I was going to say exactly the same thing, Chewie! Anything, as long as it gets USED! :whip:

I think the reason it feels SO under used in CS is it got used twice in the opening sequence and not again until the very end of the movie.

Partly, yes. And I kind of see the first two as one use, which is to say, used in one scene. Then the little bot at the end.
But also, there is a great deal of "business" about the whip in the first three, as evidence from Jeff's list. It just a matter of Indy using the whip to whip at something. In CS, the whip is kind of just... there. When he isn't specifically whipping, the thing gets less signifcance then the dust on his jacket. In the other three movies, the whip was almost a mute sidekick, getting it's own jokes, it's own close-ups, it's own moments to shine.

I would put my money on a Jacka, but Terry just retired from whipmaking. Midwest whips would be an awesome substitute!

I forgot perhaps the most important use, "You throw me the Idol, I throw you the whip."

I don't care who makes it as long as they go back to the Morgan design.

I would actually like him to graduate into something slightly different.....lije a snake whip so that it would still be the same only modified.

Wasn't there a scene in the conquistador graveyard he used the whip. I remember it because we get to see Indy gather and coil his whip and holster it.

Indy got his whip ready, but never actually used it in the cemetery. However, there is a deleted scene of Indy disarming one of the Cemetery Warriors who has Mutt's knife... Don't remember Indy holstering his whip in CS :-k

I actually hate how he uses the whip to dissarm the guy in CS. So akward moment. And look how stiff and unused that whip looks when he holds it together with the gun.. :-0

nah, for 5? Give me a used ol' wet noodle whip..

And let's not forget when he uses the whip for the first time. Thing looked like a stock whip. Yep. Wet noodle for sure.
