I was recently advised by someone whose hat knowledge I have a great respect for, to use a water based wallpaper paste..(with a consistancy somewhere between milk and cream)..as a felt stiffener....Just brush it on the inside of the hat, after removing the liner.
I did....and I've gotta say that I'm in LOVE with the stuff.
Has anyone else tried this??

Re: Wallpaper paste
No, I used hat stiffener from Leko. Just use a spray bottle for a nice even coat, and brush it in to make sure it all gets absorbed (as opposed to slinging like little dew droplets to all the fuzzies.

Re: Wallpaper paste
I've used Aquanet unscented extra super hold hair spray on a panama and some cloth hats, and it works great with no residue. However, I've not used it on felt yet. I was told at a western hat store, here in Las Vegas, that the stiffener they use smells just like the hair spray and that they recommend the hair spray to a lot of thier customers. YMMV
