Having both owned a Todds Holster and a Noel howard holster and, finally a Jake Johnson, holster..I think I am qualified enough to state that Jake's blows them all away. Not to say that they aren't nice but the finish on Todd's wasnt to my liking and NH's holster was too orange (even after pecards) and had the wrong groove line. Also, the overflaps just didn't work for me (the NH holster kept giving niks to the leather and the Todds overflap snap didn't seem sturdy enough, but thats just me. In the end , it comes down to the quality and thats where Jake wins!
This holster was handmade using 7-8 oz Hermann Oak tanned leather. The main seam is hand sewn with linen thread at 8 stiches per inch. All edges are burnished by hand to a smooth finish. After molding, the holster recieves a finish of olive oil and neatsfoot oil. There is no dye used, so the color will not rub off.The piece is then sun dried to a more screen-accurate appearence. This holster was handmade by Jake, who's film credits include "The Quick and the Dead", "Wild Bill", "Dead Man", "Wild Wild West" and "Hidalgo".
I sun dried mine for about 3 hours to even the finish. Now, for a darker appearence, I would have to leave it out again but I like the dark brown tones which contrast with the light brown hue of the holster.
Built like a tank, very sturdy and solid, the holster can take a beating. Complete with the SA double groove lines along the edge of the overflap and a brass button snap which is large, unlike the NH and todds so it can secure that flap into place. The back is stamped with Jake Johnson's moniker.
The hue of the holster is very hard to photograph but here are some shots...
Contrasted against a Tony Nowak CS jacket
Shown with my Wade Egan Raiders gunbelt (which goes so perfectly with this holster and Wade makes the ultra SA belts in the market today) For more pics of the Wade gunbelt, check the general gear section..
The fit and wear (sorry for the non SA clothing, give me a break, I just got home from work!)
(In mirror, so its reversed as this is a right handed holster)
Jake will offer these at the Summit and I suggest that you snap these up quick. The price, I believe, is $125, which is expensive but once you got this holster in your hands, you will know where that extra money went!

This is the 4th Raiders holster I've owned and the nicest so far. Really solidly made, nice soft leather (not stiff like cardboard) and lovely to look at. Also came wet moulded with a S&W shape which saved me a job. Highly recommended!

The color is natural oiled leather. No dye is used for this holster.
Has anyone seen one of the original screen-used Raiders holsters close-up? I would like to examine the edge treatment of an actual screen used item or get a really good screen cap to look at. There are a number of different versions of the edge crease done by all of the suppliers of this holster. If you believe it is something different, I can make that change for you. I have several different high quality edge creasers both new and antique that I can use for this. Getting a good image of this item has eluded myself and maybe some others here in the gear community. Any hep would be greatly appreciated. If there is time I have an idea to make another style edge crease. If time permits, I will have this new holster to show at the QM Summit.

Take a look at these photos of a new style of edge crease I am doing on the Raiders holster. Let me know what you think.
