Congrats! The wait isn't too long, but it is frustrating knowing that you've ordered one of the best hats available and don't have it yet.

I'm almost three months in for my second Penman and it feels like I ordered yesterday. Heck, It doesn't feel like I've been waiting as long as I have for my AB. Just push it out of your mind. The worst is when John tells you, "Your hats on the block." Then the couple of days it takes him to finish the hat feels like a cople of months. You feeling like going . But its all good .jnicktem wrote:Yes, congrats! Before you know it, you will have your Penman LC sitting on your head!

My dad always told me, "You can wait patiently or impatiently, but either way, you're still going to wait." Somehow, I still tend to choose to wait impatiently more often than not.Jonny Whip Crack wrote:I don't mind the wait... you can't rush perfection.

You are looking pretty good! One of those would make a great avatar. Not to mention a nice photo for the testimonial area of Penmans site. I don't think you could have asked for a more fitting bash to your face either.

ksteryous, I have to agree: you wear it very well. And as one academic to another, I really like this scholarly attire with the hat--they go quite well together.

WOW!
Talk about "stepping up to the plate" and meeting the challenge!
Well Done, ksteryous.
Those shots are Pure Class (Can't help but thinking that's appropriate for a Teacher)
Great photos, great clothes (jacket, bowtie, everything), great lighting...
and of course:
GREAT FEDORA.
(Get ready for a RUSH on "LC" bash hats, Oak!)

Don't be so modest. Its mainly due to your general awesomeness at hatmaking.BendingOak wrote:DR Ulloa wrote:Wow! I am blown away!

GREAT FEDORA.
I second that absolutely! These fedoras make a great companion to dressy clothes. And the stereotypical "scholarly" bowtie is particularly adequate.
Maybe we should open a "Indy hat as dress hat" thread...

Re: Penman LC ?
I agree....no doubt that the LC hat is more suited to this type of dress than the Raiders. Even though the Raiders doesn't look bad with nicer clothes either, but the Raiders definitely screams out leather jacket and adventure shirt.Barcelona Jones wrote:I second that absolutely! I think I've always associated the LC hat with the professor, bowtie look because of the scene just after Indy crawls out of the window of the college and is stopped by the 3 bad guys who take him to Donavan.

Re: Penman LC ?
I would say the reason the Raiders style seems to belong more to adventure (or casual, at least ) clothes is because we tend to associate it with the Indy adventurer look. This may be related, also, to the Raiders crease/bash being more unconventional, as opposed to those in the other movies. On the other hand, the grey version of the Raiders hat does not appear to be so stereotyped, what would support my theory that it is more of a subsconscious question.ksteryous wrote:I agree....no doubt that the LC hat is more suited to this type of dress than the Raiders. I have been affected by this myself - at the beginning, I was reluctant to use my Raiders with other than casual clothes.
The Raiders hat, even in brown, does not look out of place with more formal clothes, I would say, even with the "turn", as this photo of myself in my Penman tries to show ( a different, more of a 3/4 angle, photo, I posted in the "Penman post'em up" thread):

Totally agree with you there. I link the LC hat to smart dress more than high adventure like the the Raiders. When i see The LC hat i always see it as Ford wore it in Venice when he first met elsa
Re: Penman LC ?
ksteryous,
Nice lid. John, that's some good hat-fu right there.
When my wife un-grounds me, I'll be ordering.

Re: Penman LC ?
I had to chuckle at that post, Oak. It's frustrating enough just trying to get a read on a particular hat from distorted cell-phone pics. It must be really rough looking at something you've created and are trying to present in a good light, so to speak..."No no no no no...Stop doing that to my hat, darn you!"BendingOak wrote:DR Ulloa wrote:Wow! You are so right. I just hate it when I see a arm length or a bathroom shot.
Just think about it. You spent 12 hours on something then you look at some photo and say to yourself. "Does my hat look that bad????"
Ksteryous, and very nice shots. I want to use them.

Re: Penman LC ?
Indy Venkman,
Just a quick little (well, "little" by MY standards) note to you from me...
Like a number of folks here, I've been sort of loosely following your ongoing efforts to get a hat into your hands (and onto your head) that kinda' completes a little quest (again, I realize the "little" part has gotten larger than you ever planned on!) to own an "Indy" hat.
I'm home sick today and it's given me a little time to catch up on the posts of some of the Members here at C.O.W. and see what "exploits, trials, adventures - and MISadventures" have been keeping everyone busy...
So I'm only just now catching up with the fact that you've sent your fedora to John for him to re-work your hat to the best of his abilities.
I just wanted to take a second to say, you've done the RIGHT thing.
I don't, YOU don't - and even JOHN doesn't - know exactly how your hat is going to turn out... yet. But whatever happens, you're hat is back in the hands of an incredibly skilled Hat Maker who won't take that challenge lightly.
I'm sure that if anyone can give you back a hat that HAS be re-worked to your satisfaction, it's Mr. Penman.
I realize I'm not saying anything you hadn't already heard before - or knew for yourself - and I'm sure that me praising John's skills will come as no surprise to anyone here who's read anything by me on the subject of Penman Hats before. I'm a fan of John's work... that's no secret (in fact, sometimes I worry someone's gonna think I'm his Business Manager!)
The fact is, I just wanted to add my voice to those who are already saying to you:
"I'm really sorry you STILL haven't gotten your Indy Hat yet."
"I'm sure John will do something really nice with the hat you gave him to work on."
and
"All the Best of Luck to you with any future plans you put together in ordering a New Indy Fedora!"
Cheers,
Fox
