I was just searching for this thread to suggest to someone, and now realized I never got back to crismans about that question. After getting back from the Ramat Rachel dig in Israel, my wife and I took a few days to relax and meet up with my father-in-law at his time share in Vegas. While there, he suggested we go check out a Star Trek convention going on there, and we met Mr. Hatch there. A very nice guy--we really enjoyed our conversation with him.
I can't speak for everyone, but my favorite attire is a pair of jeans, a polo shirt or t-shirt, a pair of leather dockers and belt with a brown or gray fedora.
I rock a Fed IV brown with jeans and an old black Abercrombie and Fitch jacket, and also sometimes with a Carhardt brown. NEVER with my Raiders jacket unless it is halloween.
joeyofarimathea wrote:i was wondering how many of us actually wear their fedoras everyday? what i mean is who here wears their hat without wearing their gear? and if you do, what do you usually wear it with? suits or jeans or what? perhaps people can post pictures of themselves wearing their hat without their gear? just a thought.
Thanks for reading,

Since the only 'gear' I have is my fedora, I only wear it with street clothes. Jeans and t shirt or any other clothes.[/img]
I wear my Fed every day at work. Keeps my noggin warm. Matter of fact I think because I wear it every day, I dont wear it when I go out. Unless Im hanging out with some people or going to an event, then I feel compelled to stand out.
Because you know being enormous isnt enough standing out.
I'm in the "when the mood strikes" group. I usually wear my Fed IV with jeans and a t-shirt or collared button-up shirt, but I have no problem wearing my Wested as well if the weather is cool enough. Regardless, if I plan to wear my Fed IV I'll wear a brown belt and brown boots to "accessorize" (that's about as close to fashion as I get).
I wear my Penman CS everywhere and usually with jeans and leather jacket, either my wested or an A-2. It's become such a part my my everyday wear I don't think twice about wearing it out.
I usually wear my Legend with my tweeds & blue jeans. It really goes with just about anything I have short of shorts & t-shirts. Casual or dress up it seems to work.
Like Randy said, it really has become second nature, I just feel exposed without it.
I only have a dozen or so hats now. I've worn hats for over 40 years, and like others have said, people don't recognize me without one. Since I've gotten my Penman Raiders, I've worn it daily except for today. In this icestorm I've opted for my fur trooper since our power has been out for two days now. The Penman is definitley warm, but the trooper covers my ears and neck. With no heat, I even slept in the thing last night. Hopefully the power will be back on sometime next week and I can go back to my Penman. I've not found anything that the Brown Raiders doesn't work with, but I did get a steel gray Penman just for dress wear.
Best,
a very cold KY
I wear a fedora to work with my regular attire (business casual). A guy in my office always yells out "Indy!" when he sees me in my hat. So...since he wears a tie, I've started yelling out "Obama".
I wear my Fed IV with jeans and any type of shirt regularly on the weekend. I cannot wear my hat at work as it would be a violation of the companies dress code so I do not wear the hat to work.
I always lways wear a fedora with a suit in London, or with odd jacket and flannel trousers here in Wales.
Rarely brown in London because it would be paired with black shoes and belt, which isn't a great look. I tend towards the bessemer, navy or light grey christy's in London, which complements the navy or grey suit.
But with a charcoal flannel double-breasted suit I often wear brown suede oxfords, so bring out the brown fedora with a navy overcoat.
Brown hat most days in the country - matches highly polished tan, dark brown, or oxblood shoes.
Straw fedora in the summer with a navy ribbon - goes with everything.
I tend to match a hat to a jacket - but not a khakis/jeans-and-polo-shirt combination unless I'm in the sun.
pretty much everyday. Everything else I wear is either Indyesque or 30s inspired and goes smartly with the fedora. It's my only Indy item that I felt had to be SA.
As long as my shirt had 2 or more buttons on it, I'll throw on a Fedora. Otherwise it's baseball cap (for errands) or newsboy cap (for going out/traveling). Although I'm looking at another Fedora that would be my Travel/Adventure hat. Akubra?
Everyday a hat of some sort. I see a few of you on this thread are like me - the ONLY Indy gear I own is the fedora... I'm a hat nut! I'll wear my hat with any clothes as long as the colour matches. I do have a collection of new era baseball caps as well - I wear them when I'm walking through my estate late at night when all the riff raff are about.
Whenever I'm at work I wear a 3-piece suit and tie, double-cuff shirt... pretty much a smart 1930s-inspired outfit including the fobb watch and chain. In the winter I have my 3/4 length cashmere coat and matching scarf...
...I normally start off wanting to wear a certain hat, then find an outfit to match. I'm really hoping to bring back the stylish sharp look. I always get funny looks and comments when I walk through London. I think I'm the only person in London who wears a fedora. Small modern trilbys are kinda fashionable at the moment but I still stand out like a sore thumb. But I just love hats and I care more about that than I do about public opinion, although after dark I play it safe as I don't want to make myself a target... don't wanna be a dead fed!
i now wear both my fedoras everyday --- i wear my new downtowner everyday when i not with my wife , and when im with her i wear my dorfman , when i wear my hats i'm usually in jeans and t-shirts since it 's the summer. but i like wearing my hats --- kinda like being and adventurer everyday.
I have different styles, sometimes I like to go dressed similar to something Tyler Durden would wear. I don't have a fed yet, but I've already ordered two and I sure plan to use them.
I usually wear my fedora in street clothes. I start high school next week and I am afraid if I wear it for like hat day or something people will make fun of me.
