I never got anything from wested delivered in a box. Always just those extremely sturdy bags used to ship clothing in. But hey, mine only had to fly across the Channel, not the Atlantic ;-)
ok, then im waiting for a big sack of leather to be greeting me when I come home one of these days.
I just know that this is just like when I was a kid and id buy an action figure by sending in proofs of purchase and have to wait six weeks.
six weeks? but ill be an adult by then! oh my figures will never come.
just bumping so I dont lose track of my thread, I have to have a place to show off my jacket when it arrives you know. So by my calculations, its either going to be here the eighth or the sixteenth, if it follows a twenty one day schedule.
Or, they lost my order. Its happened to me before.
Believe me, after reading about customs, thats yet another fear I have. Im even afraid now that someone messed up the stitching and it will be covered in extra thread and holes like in another thread I was reading. Or I will open it and get some kind of english flu.
Yeah, I have the same fears. However Customs finally let go of my jacket and it should be here soon. Problem is, I don't know enough about jacket construction to know if mine is faulty...
I would say this, inspect the stitching. If you see extra holes with no thread in them, or alot of loose hangy threads, then for some reason the craftsmanship slipped. I was kind of hoping to get mine before the 21 days were up, based on the fact that I didnt order anything out of the ordinary, just made to my measurements. Every day I come home from a bad day at work and hope to see a package waiting for me.
I sent an email asking for some kind of an update, just so I know where Im at.
I ordered a jacket too by their online form early last month but haven't a clue to the status. I'm not in alarm mode, and have even braced myself for a possible no-go for the 31st of this month, but it still would be nice to have some tracking info either on their site or through email (like: your order is currently <insert: queued, being worked on, shipped, awaiting customs, etc>. It would just lend visibility to the process, that's all (and would alleviate nervousness and speculation from customers).
Sorry - it's really not a rant, I'm just a web guy who's created retail sites and have different expectations for companies doing business on the web nowadays.

You could always e-mail Peter. I asked him about the current condition of my jacket and he sent me an e-mail the next day saying it shipped and gave me the tracking number.
I ordered it on september 6th, and then on september 16th I received a message from Gemma saying that it would be sent in 7-10 days as they were waiting on my jacket being made.
Then on october 1st I sent Gemma an email asking if the jacket had already been shipped. You know what it is like, the exitement of waiting.
I just wanted to check, because it might have been stuck in customs or something. That does tend to happen over here.
However, I haven't received a reply from her yet.
Just to get one thing straight: I am not complaining or anything, just sharing my experience.
Just posted about this same topic in another thread. I ordered mine on the 25th, then emailed Gemma a few days later about a possible time frame and received an email stating that it was being made and would ship in 7-10 days.
Like most, I am not in panic mode but am just anxious to get my hands on it. To me, this is quite a big purchase and I put a lot of effort into researching and reading about what jacket/maker would suit me best. Plus, I don't think I have ever spent this much money on a single clothing item!
jnicktem wrote:Your fees might not be done with... my jacket finally made it through customs, and now customs wants me to pay them $26! For what?!?
Odd, because Gemma told me in an email that a jacket order would come right to my door, bypassing customs. I just ordered this morning. Well, we'll see ....
I just want a reason to why it is costing me $26. I don't want to pay, and I shouldn't have to. The thing is though I have already paid a couple of hundred dollars and waited close to a month for this jacket, and I don't know of any other way to get it unless I pay the fee...
welcome to the hobby life of a Canadian.. almost ALWAYS extra tax/duty, they hold it for a couple weeks at least, and if it comes using UPS, they charge a massive brokerage fee on top of all that.. The last UPS shipment that was valued at $200, I was charged $46 brokerage

Any advice?
You have to pay for them to try it on for you.... j/k!!
You got off lightly. They open up a package from time to time and decided to charge you tax or duty on it. $26 dollars is a pretty small fee. I've been charged $120 on a Wested sent to me in the UK as a GIFT. How they can justify tax and duty on something being sent back to it's country of origin? (Don't answer that!).

I had to pay $30 once for a birthday present sent from the US. wth? And several ebay auctions for collectibles I won in the past, the package was opened and duty charged on the book value of the item, and NOT the low price I paid. I had to start a refund process, and print the ebay page showing that I'd won an item for $10 and not the $50 book value..
here's the last paragraph quoted:
"It does not matter whether you bought the item from an established business or from an individual selling items in an on-line auction. If merchandise, used or new, is imported into the United States, it must clear CBP and may be subject to the payment of duty as well as to whatever rules and regulations govern the importation of that particular product into the United States."
Well here is one of my problems...Wested for whatever reason doesnt seem to get or reply to my emails. Had Gwyiddion not helped me, I never would have gotten a response, tho technically Gemma replied to him and not directly to me.
Gemma is currently on vacation, and Peter just got back, but, Peter being the boss, I dont expect him to be the person emailing me about my order status. So I dont know if someone is monitoring the emails and will be getting back to me, of if I will hear from no one. Ive thought about calling, but I dont think my hours coincide with theirs so that I can call.
Maybe I will get lucky, and Peter will happen upon this thread and be able to give me some info.
Peter was the one who e-mailed me about my shipping info. For what I understand, he will be in his office all day tomorrow (Saturday). If you want to get ahold of him that would be the time.
you mean call him? ill have to work out the time zone difference but if it means actually speaking to someone who might know if my jacket has even been started yet would be a plus.
Ok. Now, I am an impatient man, and quick to worry about things.
All that being said, let me tell you what is going on. When I email Wested, at Wested.com, I get no response. When I email Gemma at Wested.com. I get no response. When I try to call the number listed on the website, it wont go thru, probably do to the fact that I cant dial a plus sign on my phone.
I also never got a confirmation number for my order, so as far as I know, they have my money sitting in an account somewhere and havent even started my jacket.
How am I supposed to get in touch with these people? Gemma even told someone she replied to me twice when in fact the only responce I ever received was thru the site when I paypaled.
They have a contact us link but when you do use it, clicking send just brings you to a 404 file not found page.
Im getting worried because on the one hand, I dont want to offend Peter at all. But on the other, I have spent alot of money on a custom jacket, and no way to get thru to the company making it for me.
Does Peter check his private messages? He doesnt seem to frequent the boards that often, so I dont know if that is a route to take.

0044 is the international phone number for England.
Uhm, I'm not sure the exit code for the US is 00, it could be 01. Check the website of your phone company for the Exit-code for the US, then replace the + with that code, and call.
Regards, Geert
EDIT: did a quick search for the exit-code, and the number you should be dailing for Wested should be: 01144 1322 660654
It'll work out and you'll get your jackets. Wested has gotten alot of new customers this year, including myself, since the renewed interest in Indy, such just hang on,and let me tell ya, it's worth the wait. Good luck
I always call (the number sequence above is right) and always get a hold of someone.
I have spoken to both peter and (before that) Gemma recently regarding my order.
Patience!
regarding customs, again the post above nailed it. Dependant on what you buy, you could easily pay more in fees than what the item cost. As said, what you pay for it has litle to do with it. When I register a used car, I pay tax on it's value, not what I paid for it...
Also, some items are not allowed into the country, and some countries are not allowed to import to the United States. So, if you buy something from Somolia via eBay, there is a very good cahnce you will NEVER see it, but not because of the seller, but because Customs has confiscated it and are now investigating your background...
After reading J!im's thread, Im getting the impression that when Peter went on vacation, all custom work stopped and they only made off the rack orders. My contigous date is the 8th, the business date is the 15th, and the 17th would be 30 contiguous days since I paid.
As this all had me a bit worried, I decided not to wait but to call today.
The phone was answered by a very nice sounding lady (I assume it was Gemma, but can't say for sure) who told me that they had been waiting for the jacket being made and that it had just come in today. It would be shipped tomorrow and I should have it in about four days from now.
