I'm finally in the AB waiting-line

Post by Chiliana Jones »

yes indeed! :D

I have been trying to contact Steve about ordering an AB for over a year now with no luck whatsoever.

heres a story (the short version):

I had been working my *** off to save up money for an AB and when i finally had the cash i sendt steve a mail. The day after i was hoping i had gotten a respond, but, no. "oh well." i thought. "Maybe i'll get a respond tomorrow." but i didnt. after two or three weeks i thought maybe he didnt get it so i sendt him a new one but no respond then either and then my roomates told me that the appartment rent just went up so the AB money had to go to the rent then i had to work even harder at the theatre and school to save up to an AB and to pay the rent and, of course, to put food at the table.
i made it! i had saved up the cash again for an AB but, something else was lurking in the shadows.
After i had sendt Steve a new mail, the other guys i live with came with electrical bills (i hadnt even been much at the appartment at that time. i stayd at my girlfriends place) and it was a bit much, and of course i had to pay because i live there. But i did look after a respond from steve but no there was none.

the school exam was coming up and i had to work on the side, but it was to much for me, so because of stress, i ended up in the hospital.
The doctors told me to take it easy a couple of weeks so i did.

After gaining strength again i started on my exam (i go to filmschool) while the others in my class were almost finished (i did get to deliver it later because i got sick, lucky me  ). Me and my group actually delivered the best project so that was cool.

later i found out that AB was picked to be Indiana Jones's new hat. "oh boy!" i thought. "Now it's going to be even harder to contact steve."
I tryed to contact him again but no luck there, but i didnt have the cash the so why bother, right?

My birthday came up and my mother called asking me what i wanted for my birthday and i mentioned AB. "No problem!" she said and she sendt me the money and i was giddy as a school boy writing a mail to steve, but, no respond, so i sendt another, but again, no respond.
i sendt Steve a PM here at COW too but i found out later that he doesnt respond to them.
Steve got more and more busy and i felt that time was running out so i created a new email adress just in case the other ended up in his spam section, but that didnt work either.

so bla bla bla till yesterday:

i was still holding on to the cash my mother sendt me (my birthday was in october) so yesterday i sendt steve a new mail but i didnt wait a respond, i guess i just did it as a last try.
when i came home today i sat down on the mac and surfing the net. then i check'd my mail on hotmail. nothing new there so i continued surfing the web then i remembered "oh yeah. i actually got gmail now too" so i check'd it out and what was this? a mail from.....STEVE! i came through!
i FINALLY came through and now the man himself is going to make me an AB!
now i just wish that i could witness the creation of my hat :D

boy! im so happy at the moment

high regards to all at COW

Wow, that was certainly an ordeal!

I think that I would have given up after the first few e-mails.

Well, at least you've had plenty of practice waiting! Months from now, I look forward to seeing pictures of your new hat.

That's great Chiliana! Sounds like you've got a cool mom!

The wait may be long but at least you've got your fantastic Young Indy hat to keep it covered until then!

that puts me off the idea of ordering an AB altogether, to be quite honest. trying to order something when you'll never get a reply. great.

nevertheless, congrats on your purchase. hope to see pics in a few years.

Chiliana I've had a similar ordeal trying to contact Steve and debating about trying to give it one more try, your story gives me some hope.

I've also had a similar issue with getting the cash together then it going POOF! Of course one of the things that has always seemed to pop up was my dad needing loans  . Now my big thing is school, of course if I order now MAYBE I'll get it around my next birthday lol.

My situation was similar but instead of a year I waited a month. Steve didn't respond until I actually sent him the payment via paypal.
THe long and short for anyone who wants to buy an AB. Make the payment then worry about the details. Trust that Steve is a professional and that he will get you the hat. And to reduce the emailing, be sure to send him 3 measurements of your head in inches. Just my $.02 as I am also on the list.

Cheers

And as a side note, I finally got dragged one step deeper into the 21st century: Actually opened an account with pay-pal. COW Member price is a steal, I almost feel guilty.

I join the ranks of the waiting.

That's really not fair to Steve. I tried myself several emails awhile back and got no response. Finally Steve did mail me back and it turns out he was really sick with the flu. You also have to take into account how busy the guy was on the movie and I think he even states in here somewhere that he had to put regular orders aside to work on the movie. Hence the 1 year waiting period.

Now that he's done with the movie his wait times he says will go down to more like 6 months or less now that he has an apprentice.

Give the guy a break he works like a dog and gives the members here a really nice member special price, now that he's done with the movie he gets back to folk right away and his wait times are really going to drop. What else can ya want from the very best hat out there???

I won't hesitate to send him my payment for an AB as soon as I have it.

I always had a response waiting in my mailbox the very next day. Never had a problem and Steven was great to deal with. I ordered last week so we should be getting our AB's around the same time Chiliana. Congrats!

Yeah fair enough. It's just that I've tried emailing him too a few times (while I had money) and never got a reply. Don't get me wrong, I still want an AB (well, who doesn't?) and I have a huge amount of respect for the guy. I guess if I just send him the payment the rest will get figured out.

That's what I would do. Now that the movie is over he is seriously trying to get the wait times cut down. I would send payment and ask him to email when he gets the chance to discuss your order. I'm sure he'll get to you within a reasonable amount of time. Which email are you trying? I get a reply when I email here: sdelk@cableone.net

Good luck on your AB I hope when it arrives you enjoy it for many years.

thanks guys!
come to think about it, this long wait actually turned out to the best.
I spoke to steve for the first time about 3 years ago about an order but i decided to wait a bit because his shop was quite new and he was always improving his hats and his skills to make one. I wanted the best, for me.

When i decided it was time to order one i didnt get through and after several emails that didnt give a reply i started to believe that something just didnt want me to get my hands on an adventurebilt.

then there was the new AB logo that were presented. The logo was cool, but i thought there was something missing so i posted a fast sketch of how i thought would give the new AB logo an uplift. Little did i know that Kim found out by looking at my sketch how he could create an even better and more powerful logo, worthy being the new AB logo.
I was happy with the change and now i thought the AB is perfect! But still i had problem of contacting steve about an order, or so i thought. I finally got the mail the day after the new Logo was posted here at COW

So i do find it a bit funny. Maybe something did want me to get my hands on an adventurebilt afterall. It just waited till the hat was perfect. And my little contribution to the making of the final logo does make the hat even more special to me. Wouldnt have been like that if i came through earlyer.

now, an adventurebilt isnt just the best hat out there. It's perfection.

Congrats on making the order!

It seems to me the simplest way to order is simply send Steve the money via Paypal and *poof* you're on the list and you have a dated receipt of exactly when payment was sent.

I'm glad it's working out for you my friend! I think we ordered ours on the same day, so we should be getting ours around the same time. Our mission begins in solidarity! Glad you aren't as stressed anymore. Stress is never fun, and never worth it either. :)

thanks!:)
yeah that stress-period was horrible. Couldnt even lie down without feeling extreme pain in my back and chest and this was during my school exam period.
I'm glad i came through it. Now i can sit back and relax and wait for the AB to show up. :)

you also have to take into account that a guy like Steve gets a ton of goofy "hey there..." emails from people all over the world, and those emails with certain subject lines, as well as some email accounts get zapped by his email filter. So it is entirely possible that he never did get your emails!

That's just what I did last Friday thanks to you fine folks! I also ordered a Keppler and a gray Fed IV to keep my skull warm in the interim.

I hadn't even joined the forum yet and you people cost me several hundred dollars! I can see that I'm in big trouble...
