MY SECOND WESTED ORDER

MY SECOND WESTED ORDER
Just sent my new order to Wested. The jacket is now a little customised.
The basic differences from the standard are:
1. Predistressed hide
2. pocket size as per agent5 (cause I am 5ft 10in tall like him)
3. scalloped pocket flap with pointy tip as per photo below
http://www.flightjacket.com/store/images/g1.jpg
so to match with the film screen shot below
http://photos.groups.aol.com/_img/raide ... vd_324.jpg
4. Side strap as per photo below
http://www.imageviper.com/displayimage. ... pg&thumb=0
5. Aluminum zipper 5 gauge with no leather facing
6. Pleat depth 1.5 inches
Now I really want to see how the pocket flaps will look like, if the pleats will stay open all the time, and if the stap configuration will work.
When this jacket arrives, I will acetone distress my first one and order another one authentic lambskin this time correcting the mistakes of this order, if any.
Best regards,
PLATON
PS: By the way, I have one question. Anybody knows if the predistressed hide is cow or goat, or something else?

Actually I spoke with him on the phone and he said he'll do it at an extra charge because the pleat depth changes completely the back panel configurationor something.
He also asked if I want this elastic and I said no but now I am having second thoughts. (maybe in the third order).
Regarding the side strap he said they don't have this buckle so I am getting the 2 rectangular things.
Regarding the pocket flaps, he is making a special pattern for me at an extra charge.
I am waiting....

I requested 1.25" pleat depth but didn't get it. They are about 1.8". (mine was a extra charge jacket also as you probably know) Also, they don't have any other zippers apparently, so unless you send them one you'll probably get the normal one. I asked for a nickle zip also, but got brass.
Dr. Jones jr., See my "new wested" post if you haven't. Peter's thinking about 165 pounds for the custom jackets I think. Maybe more if you really go overboard.

Yea right after i posted that, i realized that i had already read what peter said in your post. All im shooting for thats "custom" is the smaller pockets, and the shallow pleat. Otherwise the jacket is perfect, i just think it looks so much better with a shallow pleat maybe half open than that deep pleat, i had one that really flared out, and i felt like i had wings.

Did he say how much is the extra charge for those two??PLATON wrote:Actually I spoke with him on the phone and he said he'll do it at an extra charge because the pleat depth changes completely the back panel configurationor something.

I'm not understanding this correctly because 1.5 used to be standard on the older (1999-2000) Westeds. I mean, I'm pretty sure they all came with that 1.5 sized pleat and it was because people kept insisting they stayed open that Peter offered a change for us to try to leep them closed If I recall, even the newly improved larger pleat depth opened up a bit so Peter started using the elastic.Actually I spoke with him on the phone and he said he'll do it at an extra charge because the pleat depth changes completely the back panel configurationor something.
If someone else remembers the standard, old school pleat depth, please chime in and let me know if I'm right or wrong.

No my friend.
You can forget about the days that jacket was 145.
Jacket is now 169 + 20 shipping + 10 modification (pockets) + 10 modification (pleats).
Unfortunately, the price change had to be applied when I was ready to make my second (and third) order. It's Murphy's law... you know... (always works).
Also, Peter said that they don't have the side strap buckle I was looking for so I had to settle with the rectangular ones.
I will post photos of the jacket when it comes.

You know, a member here took some brown Pecards to his predistressed cowhide jacket and made it look rather nice. Maybe you ought to see what you can do about it before you toss it.
Here is the thread so you can see what he did.

The size of the jacket is a 40R as per http://www.wested.com/frsizing.html
I am at the office now and don't have it with me to measure it in order to give you the back length. It's 35 degrees celcius here and if I want to wear it have to wait for October again.
The reason I am selling it is to get another one, exactly the same but authentic lamb.

Try not to feel too bad. After getting my first Wested, I convinced myself that a different one would be better. I sold the original and bought a different Wested only to realize I had the best jacket the first time. These are the kinds of voyages of discovery that we all go through. Discovery, waiting, frustration and expense.

_ and I were the first ones to use Pecards standard dressing to the distressed hide, and the color is wonderful once you perform this application. It comes out a beautiful mahagony (_'s jacket can be seen on the main IG page). Personally, once applied and complete soaked in, I think it creates one of the nicest looking jackets around....though still one of the heavier hides they offer, it's a mixed blessing. If you live in a cold climate, this is the perfect jacket, and with the Pecard dressing, is a wonderful cold weather item to own.Strider wrote:You know, a member here took some brown Pecards to his predistressed cowhide jacket and made it look rather nice. .
This, of course, is for folks who aren't after a distressed look, as the dressing completely removes that appearance.
I traded mine away years ago, as living in the South, it was just not getting worn due to it's weight. If I ever move back to a colder climate, I'll order or look for another one in a heartbeat. I don't like pre-distressed either, but with Pecards applied, it's one of my personal favorites over the many years i've been in the hobby, and the many jackets I've had go through my hands.
