I thought it would be fun to post some pictures of my Adventurebilt Hats.

This is my Brown Beaver Adventurebilt:

With a nod to jpenman there.

This is my Vintage 1920's Brown Adventurebilt:

And here is my Gray Last Crusade Style Beaver Adventurebilt:

These are great hats. I use the first one as my all around hat. I wear it in the field, travelling, and with my Indy kit. The second, the vintage, is very light and floppy. I don't wear it as much because it is vintage. And the gray is my dress hat, the one I wear with my suits.

It's tought to get decent pictures of them. If someone out there knows how to best show a hat for pictures, I would welcome a tutorial.

The hats look great. What a collection.

I have found that for the hat to look its best, it must be shot like the best looking hat, i.e. The Raiders Hat. Most shots in Raiders are done from fifteen to twenty feet away and a vantage point higher than Ford, or at least eye level. That is why if you are right in front of a mirror you can't see the camel humps, but back away at least ten feet and they start to appear.

I shot my avatar from about twelve feet away and a position six inches higher than me, with no flash, just good lighting. Hope this makes sense.

That makes perfect sense and I will have to try it. Most of my photos and all of those above were taken by me by aiming the camera at myself while holding it at arm's length. They came out pretty well, considering. I think there is a certain amount of distortion by the lense when you hold it that close; it tends to condense the image. Perhaps, your method gives a more acurrate representation. I think I need to dig out my tripod!

Right, I rarely get a good shot at arms' length...too much foreshortening and fisheye. Most digicams now do have a setting for close shots (around 2'), but you still get some fisheye even if the focus is right. Best bet is the tripod. Skipping all that...

Beautiful hats, Hemingway, thanks for sharing them! What's the difference between the first two, is it just the bash, or the felt body too?

And last...man, did you lose weight, or is that just a wacky aspect ratio? You look...thinner, for some reason. Maybe it's that hangdog face you were making instead of the jovial smile we are used to.

Being to close does distort the photo, especially in digital pictures. I use a tripod to take most of my shots.

The difference between the first two is that the body for the second is 80 years old. It had been sitting in a warehouse somewhere. That said, there is nothing wrong with it. In fact, it has some amazing qualities; it is so floppy and soft and thin, it is almost beyond belief. Being so floppy and vintage, I styled it more like a generic 1930's lid, sort of like what Renderking now does. For me to get a true Raider's bash, I would have to stiffen up the crown a bit, but that would affect the character of this unique hat. So, yes, it is the bash and the felt body, both entirely different.

I actually did loose some weight. I range up and down about 15 pounds or so. It all depends on what I am eating and how active I am. As for my face, I knew it was funny looking in these shots, more so than usual (Esp. that middle picture!

), but we're supposed to be looking at the hats, not my mug! Most of the ones where I was smiling, the hat didn't look as good.

My favorite picture is the first one; it is the closest to how it actually looks and it has a lot of character going on there. I look at Prairie's hat, which is awesome and his looks so perfectly straight in the crown and the brim. Mine is all bulges, lumps, and bent brims.

Wow, that is cool and a great compliment; thank you. Be sure to post pics of yours. That gray one is awesome. I wear it around the house. Now I need one in Brown like that...

I have the Akubra Fed Deluxe, its a nice hat, although I stopped being nice to it and it's now very broke in and dusty. I was having trouble getting it to look like a Raiders hat and then I realized that it's because it's sooo clean, So I got it dusty and stated sitting on it and such and it has a bit more life to it. I'll get an adventurebuild and be 'nice' to that one.

You almost wouldn't believe me if I told you. Well, maybe you will because I am going to tell you! Try this: put your hat on in front of a mirror, take your finger and run it lightly along the side of the hat and just above the ribbon pressing the felt to your skull... voila! That's all it is. I figured that the Cairo hat was just bashed around a little, while Ford was wearing it.

-If you try to do it, and then put it on your head, it doesn't work.

Prairie, it is scary thin, but I don't think Fedora had it in gray and I'm not sure he has any left at all. But, he will pound a regular Beaver body thin and I know he has some gray bodies left, though not many, so act fast!
Maybe he'll get in some more grays when he brings on the new felt.

Maybe he'll get in some more grays when he brings on the new felt.

Oh, it will be a while before I order one. My plan is to get one AB a year until I have four of them. I may sneak two in one year. I'd like another brown, a gray, and a lighter fawn brown.

If I were you Id bring the brown AB and the grey AB but if you only want to bring one, Id say bring the grey one.since there will be a ton of brown ones there. you can be unique

Steve's hats are addicting. I would actually like to get a brown one in Last Crusade style. I am so very pleased with the gray. Fedora always comes through.

I think there is good logic there. I am planning on bringing only one hat and it will be on my head for the entire trip. Checking in a hat with your luggage is always problematic.
The gray hat is great, but I'm not sure I want to wear it the entire week; it is my dress hat. Though the gray one does move smoothly from the COW crowd to the Fedora Lounge crowd and matches both of my suits. Hmmm. I still can't decide.

Sorry to duck your question, but since I am terrible at measuring crown heights and brim dimensions (I never know where to start and stop with the tape measure), and since it is all relative to your own face anyway, and since it depends on whether you believe 'acurrate' is precisely relative to your face in direct proportion, or the exact measurements as Ford's was, I would say it is best you PM Fedora directly as to what you are looking for, since he is happy to do either for you and customize a hat to your desires.

Nice collection, Hemingway! All I need is a grey and we're even!

And for the record, the "vintage" AB Hemingway speaks of is the same exact vintage as my "vintage" AB. In fact, the bodies were from the same lot. We were just lucky enough to stumble across the opportunity to have hats made from them. The only real difference between our hats is that my "vintage" is currently my main fedora I wear around. It goes in phases, but now the "vintage" wins out. The felt on this hat is amazing. There's a touch of stiffener in the top of the crown and on the brim, but other than that, the felt is incredibly responsive to the touch.

Wonderful hats, Hemingway. That's quite a collection you have there. They're all so unique & different. I especially love your grey LC. I remember when you first posted pictures of it. It really looks sharp with a nice suit (even sharper with a new Magnoli suit

). I eventually want one myself. A navy blue AB would be nice also, but I don't think Fedora does navy blue. Perhaps, one day. Thanks for the pics. They're inspiring.

Well, actually, I probably will be dressed differently from afternoon to evening. I will have my full Indy kit, my charcoal suit (the one from my bowtie avatar - you remember "Mr Bowtie?"), and my pinstripe suit from my reblock post.

See, I'll probably bring the brown AB because the gray is supposed to be my dress hat and I am going from the Giant Sequoias to the Mojave desert before I even arrive at the QM; plus, wearing full Indy Gear with a gray hat is liable to start another flame war!

As for Spiely wearing it, well. she'll be wearing her own hat!

Very nice hats you have there Hemingway! Everybody needs to throw pics of their hats up once in a while as a collection grows and the hat begins to take on personality. I never tire of looking at hat pics.

My gray AB goes on the block next week. Once received and in the company of my brown, I'll have some more pics to post myself. Looking at yours makes me even more excited in the wait.

I would say it is a brownish-gray, but you know how difficult it is to describe color. I would say it is very very close to Indy's taupe pants.

I used to have that hair cut a year ago (after the cut of my beloved ponytail) and once i went to university with my long black leather jacket. I was late when i entered in the big crowded room.
During the break after a hour, 3 guys separately came to me to say i looked like Keanu Reeves
