A Tailored, Accurate Shirt

PRESENTS

I'm working on setting up a new website "Magnoli Clothiers" which will specialize in vintage styled clothing. My first offering will be a familiar adventure shirt.

Why another shirt?!

:

Each shirt will be tailor made to order with your choice of colour and fit. I had this one made very fitting (the way the Cairo shirt looks to me), but they can be made loose fitting, or even baggy. Shirts will be made not only on collar size and arm lenght, but chest, shoulders, waist and torso length. Shirt tails can be made extra long to keep tucked in, or shorter to be more "screen accurate".

The material is 100% pure cotton twill. Here are your options of colours:

The shirt shown above is in "Stone". As a colour reference, the darkest shade "Pebble Grey" is fairly close to screen-accurate pants.

I'm offering these for $79 (international shipping included). Until I get my website set up, I'll take orders via e-mail (indy_magnoli@yahoo.com).

Please send the following measurements with your order:

neck
chest
stomach (widest part)
waist
hips (especially if ordering an athletic fitting shirt)
sleeve length
wrist (allow for watches, etc)
full shoulder (from corner to corner)
half shoulder (from corner to base of neck)
length from shoulder to bottom of shirt tails
length of neck to bottom of shirt tails
height (your full height, e.i. 6' 0")

Any irregularities that you would like altered for (such as one arm being slightly longer than the other) should be noted and will be tailored for.

Also specify fit (tight, fitting, loosely fitting, very loose, very baggy). "Fitting" would be closest to screen accurate.

I've already finished the prototype, but although they are a very nice pair of pants, they aren't screen-accurate enough for this group. So... I'm starting over again. Hopefully I'll have some news in a few weeks.

This is great, and such a good price! Maybe I'll be able to achieve something like this, which is my ideal for the shirt:

One question:
The scallops on the pockets of your shirt look a little sharper than the picture above, if you know what I mean. Am I seeing right? They may soften up in the wash, though.

Hey, that's an idea! You should advertise how your shirts look after a few rounds in the wash, to soften them up. Would give you an edge over the competition.

Yes, the pockets are a bit too scallopped, which I will be altering on the next one. There is also a box stitch at the base of the epaulette which will not be in the final shirt.

Now the colour debate... I personally like the stone, but cream or ecru might be more to the liking of those wanting a whiter shirt. Cream has a little yellowness to it and ecru is a slightly off-white that doesn't look white when it is next to a real white.

Boy, if I can get someone to do all my measurements for me, I'll have to place an order for one of these.

However, I'm not sure on two of the measurements you ask for:

1. half shoulder (from corner to base of neck) -- you mean just from the point where your shoulder/sleeve turns down to the side of the neck -- i.e., the measurement of the seam on a properly fitting shirt from the point where the sleeve attaches to the point where the collar attaches?

2. length of [from?] neck to bottom of shirt tails -- do you mean start from the center of the back, from the point where the collar on a properly fitting shirt attaches?

Maybe to help dummies like me (and the folks doing our measuring for us), you might want to post a diagram with all of the required measurements shown.

I can hardly believe it. I have the Wested shirt which I like, but the 'small' size was too big for me, and I had to shrink it down. Now I will be able to get a shirt which fits me properly.

What you also need is a label that says "Personally tailored for" followed by the buyer's name. Wouldn't THAT be cool!

Not if you plan on reselling it in the future. If he opted to do that, maybe it could be a separate tag so that it could be easily removed.

I've spent years devoted to this particular connection of gear and I am so pleased that a FAN has finally done what needs to be done. There are a few minor inaccuracies, but you, Mr. Magnoli are my hero.

For what it's worth... This is the best Indy shirt I have seen yet! The price, the options, the details, the FIT!!! You have achieved what I have wanted to see in this hobby for seven years!

I've been waiting for some resourceful soul to fill this vacuum. Very good looking shirt and a DANG good price too, for those who remember MBA's prices. This has really been a good year for Indygear collecting as we have seen both an improvement in accuracy of products and a sharp decrease in cost. This is starting to actually become an affordable hobby!

Two questions - how does the weight of the cotton compare to MBA's, and does the collar have stiffener points in it, or is it free 'n floppy?

I haven't handled MBA's shirt, so I can't compare the weight. It is best compared to a dress shirt as apposed to the heavier material you often find in "outdoor" shirts. It's soft "out of the package" and lightweight, but not transparent. The material is labeled as "all-year".

As for the collar and pocket, I'll try to get some shots for you later. The collar does have a slight flaring, but not as much as MBA's, I believe. The left pocket does have a pen pocket, but it is a seperate pocket inside the left pocket so there is not an extra line of stitching on the left pocket. Make sense?

On a side note, the shirt in the pic looks like it was made for a guy with arms as long as an orangutan!

Where the sleeve ends, would put his hands almost to his knees!

Hey... that shirt was made for MY arms!!!

The mannequin's waist is a bit bigger than mine so my pants are just riding a little high on him (they sit lower on me). Phew!

This is fantastic news. Indy Magnoli never ceases to amaze me! I wish I had half his energy and creativity. First I praise his propmaking skills to my wife as I placed an order for a headpiece. Last night I see this thread and I could not believe we have another fan-made piece of gear for the offering!

This is a great opportunity for Gearheads to get a custom and quality Indy shirt. I am bumping this shirt to the top of my 'to get' list.

I cannot wait to read the Gearhead reviews.

Ahh so close. I've been trying to figure out how to modify the larges to fit me.

If anyone has any info on how to modify the back of the shirt to fit close to the body like the shirt above would be great! I have arms that fit a large but the shirt is just sooo excessive in the back even when tucked in. Just a temporary fix until I buy one of these!

Colby, have you tried taking in the body of the shirt?
You say your arms fit a large, I assume your shoulders do too. That leaves the body that needs to be smaller.

Taking in the body should remedy it.

Yes the arms and shoulders fit well and the front fits pretty well also but the back of the shirt seems as if it has extra material which makes it loose.

I don't know much about modifying clothing so I'm not too sure what you mean by taking in the body.

The two sides of the body of your shirt have seams running up it that reach your armpits. A tailor can open the seams then take in any extra material in the back. This will make the shirt smaller in the body area.
I think this can be the answer to you shirt problem. It should not cost too much for this alteration.

Ahh ok thats what I thought I could do to it but I wasn't sure if it would mess it up somehow like make it fit weird. Well if I succeed in modifying my large I may still send you that PM.

My mom used to do this kind of work and has customized vests, pants, etc. for me. A tailor can handle this job with no problem.

This shirt is amazing I love my Wally Mod but this can address issues that can't be fixed from a moddified shirt such as long torso short arms. IM could you get a good photo of the epaulettes? Those seem to be the one thing that all shirts have a problem with. I used to think they were a wide trapazoid but the more I studied the more I think they were rounded. The price is very reasonable and the quality looks top notch. What's the turn around time from ordering to shipping?
