Re: Blast from the Past - Flightjackets

I wondered where that design came from.

I will say that Shaul and Company do excellent work, even with my design quibbles, and customer service is excellent.

Re: Blast from the Past - Flightjackets

I'll be having them re-line my Wested custom shortly. I also have one of their Indy jackets, which held up well on a 6500 mile trip in 2010. I did have some modifications made to the basic pattern - longer body, custom-shaped pocket flaps, etc. I have a few quibbles - the sleeve lining is over long,...

But not the lighter shown. That's the post-1947 model, just based on appearances.

I have a 1933 Zippo replica, but there's no way that sharp-edged beast will go in my pocket.

Re: Zippo Replica

I've been pursuing the lighter question from the viewpoint "He couldn't have had that Zippo, so what did he carry?" As a result, I now have a small collection of Dunhill, Parker/Dunhill, and a Swiss Thorens lighter, most of which are in the right era for Indy to have owned. I have a Dunhil...

Re: Period Correct Indy Watches

I hope I am in the right time period with this one. Here is my Westport by Westclox which I think is from the 50's. Not fancy but it still keeps time and was my grandfather's so it has sentimental value. Leather band gave way recently but I have a replacement on order. If any of the horologists at ...

This is a coincidence, I was just shopping around the Cincinnati area for a tailor for the exact same thing. I was curiouse as to what the cost would be on an alteration like this, thanks!! You might have better luck over in Dayton, since the Air Force base is located there. No idea about the above...

I've had a pair of these for some time (I also have Aldens), and I actually like these better. To me, they seem to fit the period look much more than the Aldens do.

If it's such a small repair, what about finding a local tailor to handle it? I had the cuffs on my Wested lamb shortedned a bit, and the tailor had no trouble. A small repair such as that should be easy enough.

Re: Is Captain Hastings using Indy's Gun?

They were originally aired on American PBS stations as part of the "Mystery" anthology. They were produced in the UK, so I see no reason why a Webley (assuming that's the gun pictured) could not have been used. "Death on the Nile" was another Poirot episode (as was this one) with...

I prefer the whipartist model as well. It holds beautifully, and I'm not overly concerned about screen accuracy for that bit of kit. The TAG holder looks good, but it simply won't hold my Morgan at all, no matter what I do with it.

Spray the WD-40 on a cloth first, then apply it to the zipper pull. Better yet, get one of the museum grade metal polishing/protectant waxes. They're very hard and will keep rust from re-forming. Sorry, I don't have a name right offhand, but check the Museum Replicas on-line catalog.

It's not so much the danger of dropping your weapon to see if it's teatime, but the usual (and rational) explanation is that it was far easier for officers timing the fall of artillery rounds or anything else to use a wristwatch, which is immediately at hand, rather than a pocketwatch, which require...

I carry a Moleskine notebook in one of the inside pockets, a Leica IIIa in the other (1937 vintage, perfect for the good doctor). Also a WWI vintage compass, and a couple of fountain pens. An old American military canteen fits nicely in there, as well.
