Re: Wearing an updated Indy look...finally..
Long ago I got into tweed "newsboy" caps and don't have any felt fedora style hats. But I have 3 newsboys and wear them year round. The thing I wish I knew more about, but kind of don't want to spend the money on, is 30's-authentic Levi's. No whip for me either - but I'm getting a ...

Re: Wearing an updated Indy look...finally..
Right - and to be sure the screen costume is very much generic work clothing of the day (the pants are a little dressy though...) What I was getting at is that the "evoke Indy's costume" idea is a treasure trove of cool clothes that will always look sorta like Indy, only not. It's even eas...

Re: Wearing an updated Indy look...finally..
I don't ever try to look like Harrison Ford in the movie - it's a costume dreamt up in Hollywood. What makes it cool is that it's based on really great clothing from the 30's, a time of amazing style in mens clothing (and womens too for that matter). If you branch out into this broader world then yo...

Re: Sportsmans Guide Close-enough wool blend german officer
I've grown weary of trying to get Sportsmans Guide's (very cool) surplus clothing to fit me. I'm a 36 waist pretty much across all brands, but their "L" size is never large enough. What size is your waist, and what size did you order? It' discouraging. I'm having to send back a gorgeous pu...

Yeah, like I said, I would definitely be ready to send that (OTR sized) jacket back if it wasn't right, tweaking the sizes up and down as needed. Do it right the first time. It must be cool living close by - you could go through all of them and get the perfect one.

You could use me as a suit mannequin for 44R - I usually get a perfect fit OTR. My Expedition is a 42 - I bought it used from the Bazaar, and the PO had let the sleeve length out about 1/2" at the cuffs. The jacket has a close, military fit which is exactly what I wanted, and the sleeves are pe...

Sounds like you may want to go with Magnoli, sending him a detailed list of all your specifications. He can work with you to make a custom jacket. Cool. This is where it's at for me, too. I don't have a gas mask bag or a whip and probably never will. I think something often missing from Indy-esque outfits is a pair of 1930's Levi's. They still make them - last pair I saw was about $250.

In footwear you get what you pay for. I never in a million years thought I would pay over $400 for a pair of shoes, but I did. Option 3. Two thoughts: first, repairability/resolability is job 1. If you make a boot that can be resoled in a traditional manner, then you've got a boot worth putting money into. Second, much of the price attached to Red Wing and Alden is name recognition. It should not be difficult to shave a goo...

But the toe shape/stitching etc. looks really good. Almost identical to Aldens.
