Re: The LC Smithsonian fedora
If you lower the back to where it should be it will tapper a already tapper hat. As for the bow. They are all slightly different and that's how The factory for HJ was puting them together. They didn't seem to really care about making a neat bow, they just seem to just jam the bow into the know. Yes...

Re: The LC Smithsonian fedora
But not viewed from the front? I was referring to your post: from that clip, its looked like it tappered. After he puts it on, the back crease looks more like a young Indy hat from the TV show. That's why I posted the pics above. I could only find one "front shot", and I don't think it lo...

Re: The LC Smithsonian fedora
You can easily see on this picture that the back of the Smithsonian fedora is higher than the front: http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/b589/gunner25111/photo12_zpsdf2af692.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; It looks tapered, but it just the natural dome of a fedora. When ...

Sure it does. I'll post some pics tomorrow to show you. The more you lower front or back the more the felt will "come out"

Re: The LC Smithsonian fedora
No, if the back is too high the hat looks tapered. If you lower the back it will become more straight.

... Truly, and I'm not trying to offend any lovers of the LC fedora, but the LC fedora was the poorest of the bunch it's a fact not an opinion..... :TOH: I really love the LC fedora, and yes I feel offended! ;) :whip: . No, not really, but if it's a fact how can you tell? Who said so? I don't think...

Re: Raider brim FAQ / Indygear difference
Thanks, but that does not help much
. I have several Raiders style fedoras, each with different brim dimensions. I would like to know, if there's a kind of "club spec" or "official" Raiders spec.

Raider brim FAQ / Indygear difference

Re: Indy ribbon
I see this leads us nowhere. Since you can not provide a proof for reasons I totally understand (I'd keep it a secret, too, if I would believe it), I think I'll have to look for a proof or disproof myself. I am not going to post pictures, I promise. But, if you would allow me to say so, I find it fu...

Gentleman, if this thread turns into another mudslinging match, we'll need to shut it down. Briscott, I've read the thread over there, and while extremely amusing to say the least, there are few posters in that thread who are innocent. If you have a problem with John, take it up with him offline or...

Your assuming that this person is in fact showing you what he states is a AB and HJ ribbon. Point two, I can't block out anyone who has gotten the ribbon before us. Point three, why in the world would I help out anyone to find the the Indy ribbon? Sorry brotha, but this is business. You mean you ca...

Re: Indy ribbon
I have photos where the AB/Penman looks like what you just posted. So, when you see the purple hue in the pictures above, you now say your ribbon has it too? Not just as purple as other ribbons? The modern ribbon look completely purple undertone. I don't think so. I have two Poets, one I bought las...

Re: Indy ribbon
One more thing I would like to say is about the purple hue of other ribbons, which Mr Penman does not like or says that it is wrong for an Indy hat. In the films you can find several scenes in which the ribbon shows exactly this hue: http://imageshack.com/a/img849/5645/oxkt.jpg At least I'm seeing i...

Since the discussion has been deleted in the other thread, I would like to start a new one, because this is still very much of interest for me and I think I am not the only one. different head sizes = different crown heights?
I'vea read that some vendors offer different crown heights (open crowned) depending on the hat size and I was wondering how much they really vary. I tried to find that out with a formula in excel, based on the fact that Mr Fords (size 7-1/4) had a crown height of 5.5 inch (CS), here's the result: ha...

Re: removing mottling after pouncing
I bought this old beaver felt hat on ebay, it's really nice, but the felt looked a bit worn out, so i took off the ribbon and pounced it with a 1000 grit sandpaper and now it has this mottle. I would like it to look as my Adventurebilt Indy 4 (referring the surface of the felt).

Re: Wannabe hobby hatmaker – first reblock – but what now?
Never thought of shrinking a HJ down, thanks for the idea. I bought this 59cm HJ some years ago for about US$220,-. When I got that reblocked acceptably, I'll try blocking some new hat bodies. Just ordered a few unexpensive ones. Yes, better sweat and liner, that's my problem, where to get that.. bu...

Wannabe hobby hatmaker – first reblock – but what now?
First of all I would like to thank Marc and Mark Brody for their great hat making tutorials. I would not have even bought myself a hat block without their help. This weekend I received my hat and crown block from hatblocks.co.uk . http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/133/blocksf.th.jpg The guy who made th...

Re: HJ = Christy?
Hi everyone! I thought others might also be interested in a direct photographic comparison of the HJ's and the Christys' (if not posted before). As you will see, felt, sweatband, ribbon and dimensions are the same, only different logos and linings. http://img150.imageshack.us/img150/473/hjchristys4....
