Re: Which piece of gear do you wear most often?

The form does not allow me to post my response ("invalid"), but my response is Mk VII. Although I also wear a hat daily, it is not always my brown fedora (I like Akubra's Heritage Fawn more). But I always have my bag with me.

Re: Will I outgrow a fedora?

Depends very much on how long ago you had your growth spurt. Some boys only start growing seriously at 15 or after, while others have got most of their growth done a couple of years earlier. Personally, I got finished my studies at Finnish high school thingummy at around 18 and got a hat that is sti...

I ordered mine in 62 because I didn't realise that they had separate sizing instructions for the Fed until it was too late. They didn't ask for any sort of confirmation on the size, either. My hat runs a little bit snug and I'm afraid that if it shrinks even a little bit, I may be in trouble...

Already responded on that "other forum", but let's repeat here: I see my Akubra Fed Deluxe IV as a very versatile hat and would be willing to wear it also with a suit - if I actually ever wore them (I'm pretty good at avoiding such situations where suits are needed).

Of course, the difference between the fur felt and a real hat is also that of a day and night (which does not mean that the wool felt o...

Not that I've seen - only the non-deluxe is shown in black on the Hatsdirect page.

Well, usually you want to avoid having the felt touch your ears, because that will result in salt stains on the brim. Also, a fedora is not meant to lie so low on your head as to touch your ears (although I believe some people prefer it that way). If I try to do it, my head presses against the top o...

Yup, the shape of the face has a lot to do with what looks good on you. There's an article on a certain manly site about this very topic:

The turn is not for everybody. Heck, it doesn't even WORK on everybody. It works on a surprisingly few people, actually. However, it is not that much different from the classic Hollywood fedora shape, which I also find a bit strange: http://artofmanliness.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/03/fedora.jpg I...

You're quite right there - I'm personally always surprised by people who watch old 4:3 TV series stretched all over their widescreen TVs and don't even notice the fatness of all the actors. We all have "an eye" for different things.

Hehe, that was an interesting story! (and similar experiences from others here as well). Having just worked some time in persuading my wife that I really needed my new Fed Deluxe, I can certainly sympathize! Luckily, she likes the new FevIV more than she did my own Pacific Dofman... @maboot38: I als...

The brim of my Fed Deluxe merely sprung back to its original position if I tried to turn it without steam... Should I just have been more forceful with the shaping, or is there some other trick to it?

Hey All, I've been lurking around here for a while, finally made an account. I was admiring all your Feds so much that I ordered one for myself. I recieved it and it seems like a great hat, but the brim is very straight and sort of turned up. You all have very nice "swoopy" brims and I wa...

That looks pretty darn great (although I'm an Akubra guy) - only, you should have made it in a larger size, since monitors tend to have higher resolutions nowadays (I've got 1680x1050).

My wait ended up being pretty tolerable. Ordered on the 19th Nov and arrived today! Came home for my lunch and saw a note from the Customs. Unsurprisingly, my lunch hour consequently stretched a bit, as I had to go and get the hat immediately. Fitting with the season, the package came with a nice no...

How is the bash coming along, Joosse? I'm also hoping to get my Deluxe before Christmas. My order was confirmed on the 19th of November and was sent that same day, so it should, by all means, arrive here on time. But, given the delays some others are experiencing, and the Christmas season, I'm begin...

Interesting history, indeed, but someone really should put this in the form of a short essay. I've never lost my hat that way, but I did leave it at my friend's place just a week ago when I was house sitting. I left it the same way I sometimes leave our own home without a hat.
