Re: Looking to replace MK bag: Todd's or Magnoli?

I have been happy with the Todd's bag. I use it fairly frequently for things. It is good quality and has held up well. It serves my purpose and I have not felt the need to get one from another vendor. I doubt you would go wrong with either. My other Magnoli items are pretty good.

Re: My Garrison Raider (Garrison owners unite here!)

I am very pleased with my Garrison Raider. The fit is great and the rabbit felt is very smooth. Turn around time was just about five weeks and Garrison Hatters kept me apprised of the progress. I love the champagne colored Staff of Ra lining. This is a general Raiders look without turn. Garrison hat...

Re: Halloween costume... how critical is the jacket?

The jacket is not necessary as has been stated. I pulled off that look last Halloween, but was called a forest ranger by someone who did not see the whip... !Oh well....! Ditto on Hatsdirect in Australia for the Federation IV. Great service. They respond to email very quickly and will help you deter...

I don't post often, but just want to say this looks great. Looks like a small messenger bag to me. I don't get the purse vibe from it at all.

Re: Last Crusade Penman final prototype / for now

Great hat as usual. Ironically, I started out as a LC fan, but after looking at these pics carefully, I much prefer the Raiders style with a looser pinch.

Re: The Penman post 'em up Pages....The Adventure Continues...

Thanks everyone all for your kind words. This is a pretty fun group. I have lurked here alot since Crystal Skull and have learned WAY TOO MUCH about fedoras, but its all been fun. My Fed IV is in taupe so my next purchase this year is the brown hero!!

Re: The Penman post 'em up Pages....The Adventure Continues...

I am now the proud owner of a Penman and wanted to take a minute and thank John for his time and effort in making an order right. I ordered a beaver Seaplane hat late last spring. It arrived in early November. John sent me the pictures before he mailed it. The hat I took from the box, though, looke...

I spoke to Jimmy Pierce today and ordered a Last Crusade bash. It will be the winchester rabbit fur with dimensional brim - 2 7/8 x 2 5/8 - , blocked for a long oval. I am going with the brown ribbon, although he said he has seen some interest with black ribbons on the Indy hats. I am excited. If I ...

I certainly don't disagree with Hats Direct claims. It's pretty clear the Akubras are just plain good hats. I am not sure, though, the extra 1/8 of an inch is going to do the trick for me....... "As far as fitting a reg oval hat on a long oval head, that's screen-accurate." As for screen a...

That's exactly my concern with ordering it right now.... I'm not ready to dismiss it yet, but I need to check other options. I have two fitted hats (both from different manufacturers); both are long ovals and fit well. I'm just uncomfortable ordering a hat that is not blocked L/O. I don't care for t...

From Hat's Direct

"The Federation is a slightly long oval. We don't re-block hats but the leather headband is designed to shrink about 0.5 cm which allows the hat to mould to any shape head."

Hat's Direct website gave no indication of that they would block a long-oval. The site pretty much stated they did no custom shaping on mail orders... but I can email and make sure. Thanks.

The replies are great. I would buy the Fed IV in a minute if I was sure of the size issue... I have looked at the Jimmy Pierce website and his work looks stellar. I think I'll give him a call and talk with him this week. It sounds like what I am looking for. Have a great Sunday all.

First Fedora - Help With sizing and Long Ovals

Hi Everyone. I’m new and I need some help in selecting my first Fedora. I want a quality hat that I can dress up for work or down for causal with khakis or jeans. Price range: $125.00 to $200.00. I am 35, and about 5’5. Some of the fitting suggestions I have seen suggest a ‘temple cut’ might be bett...
