Re: My Garrison Raider (Garrison owners unite here!)

You know, re-reading my original post its a shame that I went the whole "the bad the good" route because it seems to suggest I am not completely satisfied. In reality I am just a fan of the Clint Eastwood spaghetti western and making puns. "The Bad" would be more accurately title...

Daniel, I like your non-indy yet adventuresome gear. What is that scarf looking thing you're wearing and where can it be procured?

Re: Easing into Public Fedora Wearing

See, the general rule in San Francisco is that there's always someone wearing a weirder outfit than yours. :TOH: Haha! San Francisco: The exception to the rule. When I was in high school back in 2002 I decided I was going to wear my mk VII everywhere. And I did ... for a while. After about 6 months...

Re: Easing into Public Fedora Wearing

Well these are all great insights and good stories. Thanks everyone for sharing so far. As far as the short-term "phase 1" goes I guess I just have to wait for my lid to arrive and decide if it's the right look for me. The wait is excruciating but thats part of the fun ... right? ...RIGHT!...

Re: Easing into Public Fedora Wearing

Looks like this thread struck on a common bond that I wasn't aware existed between Indy fedora enthusiasts. The idea that it's a rite of passage to take the jeering comments and to grow in your confidence through those experiences is a rather fascinating personality study. Isn't it funny how somethi...

Re: Easing into Public Fedora Wearing

...hmmm. I suddenly fear public ridicule from strangers for the first time :-k . I hope I have the guts to wear it places outside my home and camping trips.

Even still ... it does look awesome to me.

Easing into Public Fedora Wearing

I know people are going to have opinions from all over the place on this (ranging from, "Are you kidding? Just wear it." To, "well, you have to coordinate carefully what you wear." but it's a legitimate question in my opinion. How do you go from a t-shirt and jeans kind of guy to...

Re: My Garrison Raider (Garrison owners unite here!)

Well, your pictures helped a great deal in the decision, Steerpike. When I was shopping around it was sadly difficult to find many quality pictures of LLS' fedora. Thanks to your action shots I knew it had the look I was going for and that it would hold up over time. Thanks for sharing! I hav...

Re: My Garrison Raider (Garrison owners unite here!)

I can't wait to post pictures of my Garrison Raider on this thread ...

... mostly because that means I'll actually have it in my hands!

I plan on passing the time by counting to ten ... in Greek.

Re: The OFFICIAL hat ribbon

If they switch one day, the "official ribbon" switches to. But it won't change much. I mean, I wouldn't through down my hat , shake my fist at the universe, then, drop to the ground and pound the earth, and stare up at the Statue of Liberty asking "WHY DID YOU CHANGE" and ride o...

You have made it even more difficult from me to rationalize delaying my whip purchase. Beautiful work.

Re: First Block Attempt Goes Miserably Awry (with pics!)

Thanks everyone for all of the excellent assorted advice. I'm still processing it. Block buying might be a good move... Is it silly to want to build a hat just for yourself? I think that with all of this input I’ve arrived at a place where I can comfortably say it really is all in what you expect to...

First Block Attempt Goes Miserably Awry (with pics!)

So I'd like to start by accentuating the positive: 1) I worked with plaster for the first time and actually produced a shape of some sort. 2) Subdued sense of accomplishment. As for the negative, well: everything else ](*,) Originally I was going to go for the Brody prescribed method of making a woo...

That is an immensely helpful guide but it does stop short of giving specifics about some of the questions I mentioned earlier in regards to the finished shape and whatnot.

Hat block for a beginner

I want to make a hat. I'm well aware of the pitfalls and fully anticipate my first attempt to look something like a brown sham-wow thats stiffined up a bit. I will do my best to avoid this but let be realistic. There are some wonderful tutorials on here that I'm sure to be referencing quite a bit bu...

Re: Fed IV Deluxe vs The Henry

Money is not so much the issue with the Penman hat - it's the 5-6 months that makes me antsy. I have marveled at pictures of the Penman fedora over the past couple of weeks as I've been rationalizing this purchase to myself (not difficult) and I'd love to own one some day ... I just want a nice hat ...

Fed IV Deluxe vs The Henry

The used hat market is looking slim these days, at least for size 59, so it looks like I'm going to be pushed into buying my first "real" hat brand new. (I'll be hosting a DP hat burning party afterward if anyone is in the Raleigh, NC area.) If this has been covered somewhere else, I do ap...

Wested Lambskin and Pecard

I have a 2002 custom Wested Lambskin that is finally starting to show a lot of natural wear. It is dry and has several light patches from general wear and abrasions. I have never treated it with anything and I noted that there is a tiny hole in the edge of the left cuff where the leather has really ...
