You don't actually see it get cut or fall off. It falls off kind of when the camera angle changes. If you look at the floor by Indy's feet when Donovan chooses poorly, you can see it on the floor.

I ordered that same set in the dark brown. For the money, it gets the job done. But be aware that the holster is tiny. I'm happy enough with the belt and the whip holder, though.

I can see why you think they're too dark. They're definitely darker than other khaki pants I find at the store, but they're not quite brown either. I was bored this weekend, so I bought another pair of pants and used them to make pocket flaps. My sewing skills are VERY limited and this is FAR from perfect, but I think it's close enough.
