I wouldn't worry about getting a specific crown due to your height. I'm not much taller than you and like a 5 1/2-5 3/4" straight sided crown. I get compliments on my Adam fedora all of the time and it's got a very bold tall crown. I can't pull off wide brims due to my slight build and narrow f...

I tore a lambskin jacket on a doorknob. It wasn't the greatest (Wilson Leather, don't EVER buy them) but it wasn't that bad. No lamb for me.

Nope. You can get a decent fur felt for a little over $100 if you look around. It's worth it. Wool is heavy and doesn't breathe as well.

I've never seen any of the hats you have listed, but I have an Akubra Sydney and it is one fantastic hat. It rarely leaves my head anymore. I doubt you'll be disappointed in a Fed IV.

I got myself in the ear once; that's the only one I really remember. It hurt about as bad as anything I've experienced next to getting a broken arm set.

I walked all around Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station for the past few days wearing my fedora and the only comment I got besides "I like your hat" was, of course, to be called Indy. :whip:  I can't say it's not something I didn't anticipate, and in the military if you don't get one k...

You can tell he genuinely dislikes doing these promotional bits. Not that I blame him, I probably wouldn't like doing that stuff either. It's still pretty funny.

The only ones to ask so far have been pretty girls (that I know). They get the OK. A complete stranger... probably not.

I wear mine just about every day. I hadn't really planned to when I bought it (mine's an Akubra Sydney) but I liked the way it looked so much I ended up wearing it all the time. So far all comments I've gotten have been positive. I'm expecting more Indiana Jones digs in the coming months, but oh well.

Seven years in the military has made it second nature. Not to mention the 18 years of maternal badgering I got on the subject before that.

Polyester ribbon (which is what you're likely to find at Jo-Ann or similar fabric stores) won't work for a fedora ribbon. You need to 'swirl' the ribbon, give it a slight curve, to make it fit close to the crown. Cotton/rayon ribbon will swirl, polyester won't. If you Google "cotton/rayon grosg...

Yeah, I used to swing on the old swivel handled whip too. Of course I probably only weighed 60 lbs at the time. I had a swingset that had a large open space where something else was supposed to go, rope netting I think. It was built of 6x6 timber, so the whip bit in pretty good. You just had to wrap...
