Good looking whip. I can't believe it is your first bullwhip, even my second and third look more like a sausage with a fall attached to the end. Good job.

plaiting and hockey

I've been working on an 8 foot para cord whip the last week or so. This will be whip number three. This one is a three shot loaded cores, 8 plait belly 1/3 of the way down, 12 plait 2/3 of the way down, and 16 plait overlay. in comparison whip the last whil this thing is huge. The handle is right at...

Thank you, everyone. I like to examine the pros and cons before beginning an adventure such as this. Did the same with the para-cord cord whips I made. Number three and four have started but I want to try leather. I can now see how the bolster would be more scructual then I previously thought. Thank...

Plaited Bellys, or Bolsters?

When working with leather, cow, goat, or roo, is it better to use bolsters or just to do plaited bellies? Is it a preference for the makers, or is it for the function of the whip? Getting prepared to move up to leather and was just wondering what everyones thoughts are on the topic.

I practice in my backyard, and so far (knocks on wood) I haven't had the cops called on me. My trowing is getting better and the cracks are getting louder now that I have found good a popper size (2 strands twisted to 4 about 8" long). My neighbors I guess are OK with it. At least no complaints...

Would this work? I'm starting my next para-cord, and it looks like I'm starting this exact way. I was going to go with a 12" handle this time, to change it up a little, and to see which style I like better. I was going to make it and 8 footer and have the weighted cores ending at two foot inter...

I'm working on the second para-cord whip. I'm going 8 footer on this one. On my six footer I used the double shot with one empty single for the core. I used an 8 plait belly, and 10 plait overlay. Should I have more layers of plaiting? The next whip I'm changing the core with adding one more shot co...

First whip I may was out of nylon cord. I too found I could not pull it as tight as I would have liked to. It was very hard to braid. If you move up to para-cord it is the difference between night and day. It lays flat and is a dream to work with. Good luck and don't give up.

Good luck...

A question about leather.

I figured this would be as good a time as any for a few questions. For those who make leather whips, a quick question. About how thick, firm, and stretchy of a piece of leather would you recomend to a guy starting out. I have been looking at cow hide. I can get a pretty good sized hide for cheap, an...

The fall is para-cord with the inner strands left inside. The turks head took me hours and several times re-tying. I did have Ron Edward's (RIP) book to help. Some times I had to stop, take a break, clear my head, and start over.

No, if you want ugly you should see the poly-cord snake whip I finnished a few weeks ago. Hey, quick question. About how big of a final diameter should I shoot for in a para-cord whip? I'm working on a bull whip like Cracker's but I think I made the handle a little thin. Good looking whip. I decided on a bull whip this time. I have finished the shot loaded core and attached it to the handle. I made a four strand flat braid wrist strap, I was going to make a round wrist stap but was pleased to find that I could do the flat braid with para-cord. Para-cord is awesome.
