"Cuir gras ou cuir lisse" ! I had the same problem as you for my alden : which leather it was ?

You have some special waxing for this kind of leather (oiled leather ) ! To tint or dye them should not be a problem

for my part i get my feet measured by a professional deluxe shoemaker :
43 cm. She advice me to hava 8.5D for my aldens...
And she was totaly right !

It seems that there are two type of leather in shoe manufacturing: greasy leather and smooth leather. (cuir lisse et cuir gras in french)

And you have different polish according to the leather.

What about alden boots ? Have you ever heard about this subtility ?
