Yes!! That is the pic!
(Don't know why I just didn't think he would hold the gun in his left hand--duh).
Thanks for all that info.

Re: Idol-grab fedora--distressed?
Thanks Mike, but that is not the pic I had in mind. The one from the book has Ford pointing his pistol waist high, the hat looks pristine (to me at least), and the hat bow is on the same side as the pistol hand. Unfortunately I don't have access to the book now, but maybe someone here has it.

Re: Idol-grab fedora--distressed?
Yes, that does make sense. And, who knows, maybe it got some extra intentional distressing while filming in Tunisia.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Idol-grab fedora--distressed?
While watching Raiders and the opening scenes in the cave, it "appears" to me that the idol grab hat is not as distressed as the hat in SoC. Maybe I'm not seeing it clearly due to the bad lighting. Appreciate any thoughts on this. (not sure this is related or not, but in a copy I have of t...

Re: Some "turn" questions
Now I've got it--thanks!
(btw, I have a question on the "idol grab" fedora, but I'll post that separately so as not to cause confusion).

Re: Some "turn" questions
Sorry to be-labor this, but I am still a bit confused. So was the "idol-grab" fedora turned?
(I always thought that the approach to the idol and the grab scene were also done in Hawaii).
Thanks again!

Some "turn" questions
There are so many detailed "turn" discussions it's easy to get bogged down. So I thought I would pose some basic turn questions. -is it correct that the only part of Raiders where the hat is NOT turned is where Indy is approaching the cave in the jungle (very beginning of Raiders)? -How ab...

Thanks! I never knew that story.

Grail temple fedora
I was re-watching Last Crusade the other nite and was suprised at how narrow the brim looks in the last scenes in the grail temple. I was wondering if there had been a consensus reached as the the probable width of the brim on that particular hat. I did some searches through COW and found some discu...

Re: "un-stiffening" a hat
Thanks for that info on the denatured alchohol. I will give it a closer look--maybe try it on a beater hat I have.

Re: "un-stiffening" a hat
I had never heard of denatured alcohol before, and when I looked it up it looked like a pretty toxic chemical--kind of scared me off. (this is assuming I was looking at the right substance).

Re: "un-stiffening" a hat
Thanks all for the suggestions. Mark, you were pretty much right about the hat "re-stiffening" after steaming. However, after I steamed an rinsed it, it did soften up a little. Not sure I want to get involved with denatured alchohol though. I guess I'll just have to pretty much live with it.

Re: "un-stiffening" a hat
If I remember correctly Steve talked me into a beaver for a great price.
So if I steam the hat first, would this loosen up the stiffener so it could be more easily washed out?

"un-stiffening" a hat
Hello all, I'm just getting back into Indy hats after a long absence. So I thought I would throw this question out there: I have two early Adventurebuilts. The second one, unlike the first, has a crown that is very hard--almost helmet like! (that's only a slight exaggeration!) The brim is fine. Is t...

Ha! Thanks Jason.
(Although I have to admit that I hate the TOD hat only "slightly" less than you do. LOL!. No doubt a good Raider's hat is the Holy Grail of fedora fans.)

Re: The Perfect Crown for A Raiders Hat
Hi Jason, This is a little off-topic, but you are obviously someone who has carefully studied crown heights. I would like to get your opinion on the crown height/pinch of the TOD hat (specifically where Indy looks at the stones in the village) vs the Raider's hat. Is the TOD height crown/pinch short...

Re: The Perfect Height for a Raiders Hat.
This is an excellent discussion.
I've found that one of the hardest things to do is to lower the pinch on a hat and avoid creating taper. I had some success, but it is a pain. If anyone has any ideas to make this easier (short of re-blocking) I would certainly appreciate it. Thanks!

Hat ribbon replacement
Greetings all, After being out of the Indy world for several years, I decided last summer to take out my old Akubra Fed and put it in the sun to lighten the color (which worked fine--it now is very close in color to my 1990's HJ). The problem is that I succeeded in fading the ribbon, so that it now ...

Zipper help
Hi, I was wondering if there is any way to save the zip on an old Air Force jacket I have. The problem is at the bottom fo the zip---the left side with the metal "bar" (the "male" (?) part) has separated from the cloth material and is very difficult to get into the slider. Does a...

Fading a shirt
Hi, I have a question that is non-Indy related that I thought you might be able to help me with. I apologize if this has been covered before. I do some WWII collecting and was recently given a reproduction fatigue shirt that is green colored (actualy olive drab). I would like to lighten the green co...
