Re: How to curl the brim of a hat im making without a flange

I curved my hat’s brim by putting it on my head after I wet the brim and put the shaping into it by rolling the brim upward. I only did it on the sides and back and left the front a bit droopy as it is in Raiders. The raiders turn already helps the shape, it just needs a bit of curl. I’m the foam ha...

Re: New Hatter Enters the Fray - New Hat Stuff woo

Hey everyone! So I finished up a hat for a commission I got through my Etsy shop. Just thought I’d share this because I’m really happy with how this hat came out and I made it for another person, which is really exciting! Pics are here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/tzUaQdRHavJv4v9b8" onclick="...

Re: Question

Other than totally taking apart the hat to reblock, you could try shaping the crown with some steam, but the wool ones are hard to shape if that's the one you have. Or if you want to you could replace the ribbon to get a better color. That's about it.

Re: New Hatter Enters the Fray - Video Now Up! (And Fixed)

Another update! (Yay) So I determined from measuring and just from the ribbon to felt ratio that my hat was about 1/4 in. Too tall. So to fix this, I sanded my block down to almost 5.5 inches tall exactly, and re blocked my hat. This allowed me to gain 3 new features. 1) my hat was shorter 2) the br...

Re: New Hatter Enters the Fray - Video Now Up! (And Fixed)

Okay everyone! It’s been a really long time since I posted anything but I put the new ribbon on the hat, lowered the pinch by maybe 1/2 inch or so, and tested out how to achieve a more SoC look. Let me know what you think! (Also since I can’t sew very good, the top corner of the front of the bow cam...

New Hatter Enters the Fray - New Hat Stuff woo

Hello everyone! I recently finished a hat that I wore on a trip to Florida, which is my newest addition to my collection of obsessions. It is 5.5” tall, with a brim 2 3/4 front and 2 1/2 sides, and 1 1/2 inch ribbon. The felt is darker brown fur blend (don’t know what but probably has some rabbit). ...

Is it 5.5” or shorter open crowned? Looks like it belongs in a museum. Might need to get myself one. ;)

Re: LC ribbon color

I’ve noticed personally from watching raiders and last crusade almost back to back, that the LC ribbon in the desert definitely is dark brown, darker than the felt but still brown. In Raiders, in most scenes the ribbon looks black. So just from my viewings I can tell it is darker in Raiders. Haven’t...

Here’s my wip raiders center dent that I bumped the middle out of and put a dent in the back.

Don’t have an ABL so I’m not sure, but I used a clothing iron to stiffen felt so it might work for you. You could also get a hat stiffener but I don’t have any experience with that.
