Potential gun prop

Post by IndyBlues »

I found this last night while searching for a decent Indy revolver prop for Halloween.

I know it needs some paint, but it looks pretty good.

Be careful waving that thing around in Philly, Blues! Someone might shot first and ask questions later.

It is an awesome find, my friend. All you need is some brown, black, and gun-metal model paint to dress it up well and it would be perfect. It would be fun to paint it. You could use a couple of different browns to get the wood grain and paint a trompe l'oile effect of a real gun.

Painting a training gun may be problematic. Paint does not adhere well to urethane resin and may even flake off, especially if the urethane is the flexible kind.

Well, it doesn't have to be Indys gun, per se.

It can be IndyBLUEs gun

You could name her Blue Thunder.
There are primers that work on some flexible urethanes, but you'd definitely have to try it out to know for sure.

If you use the blue gun, it won't show up on the blue screen, so you can digitally put in the blaster pistol... :-k

So is this urethane more like a resin, or rubber?

I think it's like a very hard rubber. It won't droop when you pull it out of the holster

I ordered one of these because I need something to go in my holster on halloween and this nails te shape of the Raiders gun pretty durn well.

Why? One of the moments people remember of TOD is when he goes for his EMPTY holster...

I plan to put my cell phone in mine...when I get one. I figure I'll have a holster LONG before a gun...even a prop one. Got little ones in the house and a wife that is already keeping a careful eye on the WHIPS...

Has anyone tried the new spray paint that's supposedly made specifically for plastic? I've only seen the commercial, but maybe that'll work on this gun prop.

Krylon Fusion...I used it on the vinyl doorskins for my Dodge Challenger. Works well, and bonds to the molecular structure of the plastic...but this is rubber...the difference in materials may be important to consider.

Oh trust me bowjunkie, I'm hangin' in! (take a look at my avatar) I just needed something ready for Halloween and the price was right.

As for the TOD look, I'm going as Raiders Indy, so I want a gun. True, I'm the only one who's going to notice, but if that were a criterion for the gear I wear I'd be a few thousand dollars richer.

Well the news is, because I do this kind of stuff for a living, I had to put the Indy gun project off until just after Halloween. Been swamped with orders from people needing items for Halloween so I had to make a slight priority change. Don't worry, it is a definite go. I am as excited as anyone to get this one going. It will be something special I can guarantee!

To get back to the original thread topic, I called to confirm that the company WILL ship this k-frame S&W to Canada...so if any Canucks wanna order one, we won't get the usual 'We won't ship to Canada' crud.

Problem is..

Post by Kilgour Trout »

Problem is that when I looked into the legality of a resin hand gun in Canada, the answer was "Verboten!!!" , restricted from ownership :x . Yes, I can own a real handgun "with all the nonscence" or even an airpistoli, but NYET....a Resin deal is "No go". At least thats what I got from the Ontario Provincial Police and a local gunsmith.

Gator...do you have any info that might allow this to happen? Could the colour of the gun make it passable?

Interested
