Rewatching Dial of Destiny today and discovered they made an interior pocket to accommodate the dial—or half thereof.
It's a large, sideways opening pocket on the left side of the jacket.
Image lightened for clarity:
Crop in on the pocket:

This is very interesting.
I'm bothered with how fake everything looks in this still picture though. I love this movie...

Good find! I never considered the concept of a 'gun pocket' on an Indy Jacket, but it's a good idea and is thus proved with DOD! W>

Nice! Now let’s see what vendor adds it to their jacket offerings ;-)

This is really interesting stuff Mike, it would appear that there is two pocket styles in DoD then. In 1969, it appears the jacket has the regular slit pocket.
If there is a better grab of this frame one could get a better shot of the inside pocket in 1969.

Good catch Stefan. I'm guessing different jackets for different purposes. If the dial wasn't needed, then regular jacket.
Or Ford wore one, and the stunt double another.

Hi. I believe the dial is stored in the open lining on the right side, as you can see here.
In the film he pulls it out from that side with his left hand.

Thanks for this pic!! I've been looking for one showing it on the right side.
I shall include it in the main site write-up.

So it appears he has one of those hidden pockets on each side of the jacket. Notice in each shot, it's alternating between which side it's on.

this is called a 'Poachers pocket' in the UK .. some Barbour jackets have them occasional accessed from the outside but it was basically a 'tunnel' running left to right across the lower back of the Jacket. Seems like one of those convenient additions you get in a story because they needed it? In the rest of the film he has it in his standard Mk VII bag though the props size does seem to vary, so it feels a little contrived here.
