Wested TOD goat or Lamb?
Thinking to buy a wested tod, but I can’t decide the hide...: GOAT OR AUTHENTIC LAMB????
Re: Wested TOD goat or Lamb?
If part of your interest is to get the weathered look you see in the movie, go with lamb. The goat is very durable but doesn’t show it’s age for a long time. Also, not sure what color you’re after. The goat is dark and I’m honestly not sure if you age it if the undertone is brown or gray. Wested has some very nice weathered lamb that is dark and grainy. They also have shrunken lamb which may be very good for a TOD jacket. One of those would be the way I’d go.

I agree with Tibor. Also is there a reason why you're going for Wested for a ToD jacket? They didn't make the jackets for ToD, and there's some really spectacular ToD reproductions out there now (S&J, BK, etc.).

Lamb is a good leather but my personal choice is goat for a lighter jacket. Only downside is it will take longer naturally to show wear. I have hot washed a couple Indy jackets from Gibson & Barnes. Slightly brought out the grain more. Did the same exact wash on a BK and a Wested and basically ruined them......

Lamb, if you want a jacket that looks and moves like the film jacket. Goat, if you want a more durable and stiffer jacket.

Washed lamb .... its darker and has a fantastic texture .. i have a raiders and TOD in the washed lamb and its stunning ... a really really nice skin. dont get goat as it will take you 200 years to even scratch the surface and its a bit heavy. the authentic lamb is al little light id say colourise and super smooth

Re: Wested TOD goat or Lamb?
I've seen old photos here where people, I think Holt, maybe, have dyed a Wested lamb after distressing it. They used a reddish dye and it looked pretty good. I'd go with that option. The goat, if you distress it, has an undertone the color of antique brass. It looks good to me, but maybe not too screen reminiscent, perhaps. I guess it's doing its own thing. I've got a washed lamb from about three months ago. It has about a thousand creases crisscrossing the surface. I like it a lot, but it's not what I feel is SA. Others might disagree, but it's not exactly screaming Raiders, ToD, Crusade, or Crystal Skull, in my opinion. Like my artificially distressed and antiqued goat, it's also sort of doing its own thing. I'd say Authentic Lamb is your best bet.
