Pecard's on Cowboy Boots?

Post by ChrisMD »

Sorry, not Indygear but I didnt know where else to put this. I just picked up a NICE new pair of Ariat's and as far as care, I dont have anything made for cowboy boots, but I have some Pecard's Leather Creme Dressing of jell or whatever. I was wondering if that would be ok to use on them. I dont mind if it darkens them but I dont want to harm them. I also have Lexol lotion. Curious as to your thoughts, some of you fine people are so knowledgable when it comes to leather care. Im lucky you let me stay around!

Thanks!

I use Pecards on my boots once a year. Still going strong after 19 years.

Thanks! I guess it'd be good to do it right off the bat. Think so?

I use them on mine, after hard wear over a year. They practically look brand new now!

I suggest a good coat atleast once a year.

If the boots are brand new, probably not. If you're going to wear them through the winter in snow (I wouldn't recommend that) you may want to put a light coating on to help with water repellence.

They wont be worn in deep snow or even "real" snow. Just to and from the truck in slush or a dusting. I have regular snow boots I wear in addition to tactical boots.

This brings up an additional question, how often should you put Pecards on your shoes?

Depends. (Don't you hate that answer?! )

My personal practice is to re apply Pecards if my shoes are totally soaked from a rain storm or like situation.

Once they've completely dried (naturally AIR dried, if you please), I then put on a new coat of Pecards and allow to soak in.

Other than that, once a year usually does the trick.

Treated my girlfriends boots and mine. They are quite a bit darker and look good. Feels good knowing they are protected. Hers actually returned to the color they were new. Fantastic product. Then again, worn old cowboy boots look cool too!

Treated and untreated.

The color will lighten up with use and still be protected.

Yeah, I have to admit, I was impressed with Pecards. I put some on my leather work shoes which I have worn for around 12 years or so now and they look great now! Made them look very good and almost new again!

I have been using Pecards for years. It is a life saver for leather boots and shoes if you use them outside. I treat all my Civil War, and 18th century era shoes with it and Pecards has never let me down. Good stuff.
