Indy Gloves help please

This is my first attempt an adding Indy's gloves to my gear.

First, I would like your comment on how close these are.

And the reason I'm posting here is I would really appreciate thoughts on quickly ageing these. OK, artificially distressing if you will. These were found on Amazon for $12.81. I didn't realize I would get 2 pair, lol Maybe it was a mistake because I don't see that posted. These are Wells Lamont Palomino Grain Cowhide Gloves Large Size and I want them to look old but not totally trashed.

I'm thinking about getting them wet and rubbing my hands around in rocks and dirt for a start. I looked through this section and didn't see any info on this topic. Sorry if I missed it.

Todd makes a fine pair of Raiders gloves. I checked, and it looks as though he is out of stock on them at the moment? A light colored pair of Wells Lamont's makes for a fine close enough, and can easily be found at Wally-World. Good old fashioned yardwork is a great idea for distressing the gloves, digging around in the flower beds and mowing the yard, etc., works wonders on those strips of leather.

Todd makes a fine pair of Raiders gloves. I checked, and it looks as though he is out of stock on them at the moment? A light colored pair of Wells Lamont's makes for a fine close enough, and can easily be found at Wally-World. Thanks TS, I checked TODDS first and you're right. This was my next move. And couldn't beat the price. BTW, I don't do no stinking yard work. Maybe I can get the guy I pay to do it to wear them

Those are OK, but the palm pad is wrong. I like the gloves online wells. They have a more SA thumb construction.

They do come with different coloured edging, the small are red edged, I guess the large must be beige edged.

Cool. Now I AM confused. I see both Wells Lamont and Midwest Leather credited as the makers of the original Raiders gloves.

Ray, I had a pair with the reinforced palm like yours. I eventually removed the palm strip and the stitch holes hardly show.

Wells Lamont recommends that you soak the gloves with water and when dry saturate with a leather conditioner. I recommend the Pecards Leather Dressing you have on order!

My method was to wet them and wear them doing yard work until dry. Then, I'd slather on the Pecards while wearing them and either wear them until dry, ot use the old hair dryer. This will help them fonform quickly to your hand shape.

Since you avoid yardwork, you can simply dirty them up while wearing (while wet, either with the water or dressing) like you described.

Thanks Tundrarider, I actually went outside, wet down the gloves and then "washed my hands" like you do with soap...using potting soil while they dried. Then I wiped them off and added Pecards Lotion (still waiting on the other order to arrive) and rubbed all over. Then I balled them up and let them dry. I guess I was sort of on the same track =) Since I have 2 pair, I will probably take the pad off one and see how it goes.


I still want to know if Wells Lamont or Midwest Leather were the original real deal.

Hard to say for sure on the maker of the gloves. If memory serves the Wells Lamont mule has been ID'd in some screencaps.

The biggest 'problem' with the gloves that have the palm patch (beyond the obvious non-SA-ness) is that patch gets dirtier quicker than the rest of the glove so you get really dark/black patches on the palms that stand out over time. If you plan to continue to use the gloves for real work I'd recommend leaving the patches on. If you are looking for costume pieces, then removing them will give better results.

Both brands of gloves were confirmed by the production department as being on the sets of Raiders for general use by the grips. Ford borrowed gloves from grips onset all the time, as the costuming group forgot to add them to his costume, and he just grabbed what was available when he needed a pair, so either are correct.

The WL's do have more identifiable screen time, though, so if you want certifiable proof, you can and will find that in the WL gloves, but the Midwest gloves were there as well and were mentioned several times in the early years as being with Ford in several scenes by members of the prop department, and mainly on location.

The way it was told to me, the WL's seemed to be used more 'on-set', where the MidWest gloves were used more by the 'on-location crews. It just depended on where supplies were being delivered for production crew use at any given time. There was no real rhyme or reason.

Heres my take on the gloves, granted im just a new guy!

I dont have any screen accurate gloves YET. However i do have gloves that are the same color. Personally i drive alot in my Indy gear and when its cold its nice to have a pair of driving gloves. My gloves accomplish both tasks. I use USMC "Frog Gear" summer gloves. They are Marine Corps issue tactical gloves that very quickly conform to the shape of your hand. You can do anything including shoot, text, and manipulate buttons and zippers while wearing them. You can sometimes find them on ebay. So if you guys wanna cheat sometimes and a great pair of really comfortable, extremely rugged raiders lookong gloves for utility purposes, check these out! Ill post some pictures in a bit.

I'll throw my two cents. Wade Egans are spot on. The stiching on the back is straight while Todds are zigzag, (I did email and asked Todd if his were staright, and he answered back: zigzag)

A little pecards and putter around the engine of my jeep, and vola, distressed.

Pickup some of the rich dark black potting soil in the small plastic bags. Put it in a 5 gallon bucket with some smooth round rock and some sand. With your gloves on work your hand into and mix all the ingredients up. The moister in the potting soil is enough to wet the glove without soaking them.

Gloves do not take much to distress. Here are a couple of pictures of my Wells Lamont gloves I picked up from Walmart. Hiking in Colorado and Texas, two archaeological excavations, replacing wooden fence boards, and your average yard work will get gloves looking like this. There's even a pus stain from a blister on the right index finger


Now that I look at them, they don't look so dirty

OK!! So here i sit typing in my new wells lamont 2500 work gloves. palm removed they are AWESOME. Hard to type in tho!! i returned my todds gloves because they were too costumey and off color. i need rugged gear to beat up and these are winners. pics comimg!

Pardon the horrfic lighting and color distortion in the photos. Theyve been washed and lexol'd. Drying now. Already feel great!
