Some fun with an extra Todd's bag...

Post by Zuiun »

Last May or so I bought Todd's version of the MKVII bag. I decided that I was going to NOT distress this one, but just use it and let it wear naturally. Basically, take care of it as I would any other bag. So it's become my iPad bag and I use it almost daily.

Recently I wound up with a second brand new Todd's bag that was included in a lot I purchased of misc. gear. So I decided I would have fun and distress it.

One goal I had throughout the process was that I wanted to maintain the structural integrity of the bag as much as possible. So any cuts I made into the canvas are ONLY in places where the canvas is doubled up and reinforced (such as along edges).

So far all I've done are two hot water rinses (during the second rinse, I "ground" the canvas between two large river stones) and then letting the bag bake dry after each rinse in the sun. Then I took a knife and frayed some edges. I'd like to fade it a little more, so I might do a couple more hot water rinses and more sun bleaching.

The newer looking bag in the photo is actually the older bag that I've been using every day (and the two bags looked identical before I started).

Now all I have to do is convince myself to buy a duplicate of ALL my gear so I can create new and aged versions...

Great job!!! I'm amazed it only took that little amount of work to get that color out of it.

It almost looks like my vintage one.

Thanks! I was kind of amazed too, because it didn't look like much color was rinsing out in the water at all.

I'm impressed. That's quite a difference for relatively little work.

The bag on the left is in slightly worse condition than my everyday bag! It looks GREAT for a costume bit. It looks very Temple of Doomish.
