Anyone have a source for a S&W 1917 laynard ring/hardware?

Post by Trebor »

I've got a nice S&W 1917 that I'm buying from a friend. I'm not taking delivery until my C&R arrives so it's going to be at least a month or so out.

The revolver is missing the original lanyard ring and associated hardware (screw, etc). Does anyone know of a source for a original hardware?

I plan to try some of the usual suspecs, such as Gun Parts, etc, but thought I'd ask here first.

I'll post some pics when I get it. I was going to "Indy-ize" it, but it's nice enough that I'm prorbably going to leave the barrel alone. (The grips were already replaced in the past and are now actually the correct Indy style diamond grips)

I did a search one time for the gun and found quite a few dealers who sold the rings :TOH: .

For ANY firearm need, Numrich.

Direct link for all your S&W 1917 needs: http://www.gunpartscorp.com/catalog/Pro ... catid=8042

Ordered many things from them; great company, great stuff.

Also make sure you check ebay. I got one for fairly cheap there.

You can also check with any local gunsmith worth their salt who may either have one in a drawer somewhere in the shop, or make one for you.

They're not that hard to make for a good smith. Some rifle lanyards used the same stud and thread, and all you'd have to have made is the ring.

Thanks. Gun Parts it is. I'm actually surprised their prices are better then I've found elsewhere. In my experience their prices tend to run a bit high.

My C&R app went out in the mail last Monday. The seller is going to test fire the gun for me over the weekend. He says the cylinder gap is good and the lock up is tight, but I asked him to put a couple rounds through each chamber for me anyway.

Now the waiting begins. Man, I wish I hadn't let my C&R lapse a few years back...

I could pay someone for a transfer, but since I wanted to get another C&R anyway, this just seemed like a better idea.

What's involved in getting a C&R now? I looked into it a few years ago but never finished the paperwork.

Go here:

http://www.atf.gov/forms/firearms/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Make sure you also download and fill out the "Certification of Compliance" as well. It's a separate form, but it's on the same page as the C&R application.

The fee is $30 for three years. The instructions on the form cover all you need to know about filling it out.

It is well worth the money. Also, many retailers or distributers will give C&R holders the same discount they give FFL dealers. (Not all, but it is worth asking about)
