New Todd's Standard Vs. Bantu Wind

Post by Mr. T »

How is the leather of the new standard in comparison to the leather of the Bantu Wind? Is it thicker on the new jacket? I know the leather is brown beneath the finish on the new standard and gray on the Bantu Wind. I'm interested in the thickness and weight of the leather and would greatly appreciate any information. Also, how is the sewing? On my Bantu Wind, the tension was off on the machine used to sew it, so the stitching locked on top of the leather, as opposed to inside the leather. How is the new standard with this? Is it sewn better. I need to point out that my Bantu Wind is one of the more expensive ones. I'm thinking of selling it, actually.

I picked up one of the new standards for my wife at the QM Summit this year.

The leather on her standard is much nicer than my Bantu (1st quality).
It is slightly thicker, much softer and not as shiny. (3 pluses in my book)
It has patches of grain and some striations, but, not nearly as gnarly looking as the Bantu.
Overall construction and stitching appear to be better as well.

Thanks for the information. I do appreciate it. One more question. What is the body of these new Todd Standards like? Roomier than the Bantu Wind? Are they roomier than the Wested Hero?

I'm also curious about the sizing. I got an XL Bantu that, after a cycle through the washing machine, fits FAIRLY well, albeit a little roomy. I'm wondering if a L would be a better choice for the new standard.
