WPG shirt and bleach?

WPG shirt and bleach?
I recently acquired a WPG shirt and while I like it a lot, it seems slightly too dark. I recall reading somewere a while back about using bleach to lighten an Indy shirt's color but can't find it now. Has anyone used this method to lighten their Indy shirt? If so, how did you do it? I mean, how much bleach to how much water, etc. I would like to try this but I don't want to f&*k up a brand new shirt that fits me perfectly.

I found 125 posts about the subject in a quick search. Maybe one of them will help.

WPG shirt and bleach?
On the main indygear page under the site founders I found a link to instructions for bleaching and dyeing a shirt to correct color. It's under one of their bios.

Yep. Not necessarily the RIGHT 'things', but it's a title my daughters gave me years ago (has an Egyptian historical connection, as a matter of fact), and I embrace it proudly.
Glad it gives you a chuckle....I think.

That the point that makes it quite unique, "Not necessarily the RIGHT 'things." No insult intended. I just like it. So few things make you laugh these days.

Re: WPG shirt and bleach?
Please keep in mind that tutorial was pretty specific to NH originals.
His material was much easier to to that process to.
Everything I've read about WPG adn Todds shirts, is that they are very hard to fade.
Very similar to LLBean shirts.
They really like to hold the dye!
(Not to say it can't be done... )

So it shall be written, so it shall be done.
That sort ah thing, oh knower of all things.
I've done the Dalexs re-dye to some succses, never tried it on a WPG or Todds, Todds I feel is just right in color, a my old WPG seems fine too, are the current offereing that much darker, may just need re-invest in a new shirt.

Re: WPG shirt and bleach?
Kinda/sorta. Actually, as the priests of the god Khonsu, they were the Bekh Khet, or 'the Knower of Things'. They were specifically assigned to be available and in attendence for any sort of important village and family ceremonies, and events such as births, weddings, and deaths. Exactly WHAT they were supposed to 'know' was the mysteries of life and death and divining in many realms...but mainly they attended these gatherings 'knowing things', and by that official connection to the god Khonsu, it was considered a pretty high office in the high priestdom.Indiana Croft wrote:So it shall be written, so it shall be done.

Of course the above is an EXTREMELY simplified cliff's note definition, and no where NEAR the whole story, but it's a sketch of the position. There's an entire field of study on this faction by itself in the study of Egyptology!
Anyway, my girls tagged me with that title when the eldest was working on one of her Egyptology classes in college because they'd come to me for research topics for reports. My reading habits and interests kind of range all over the place. I usually have anywhere from 3 to 6 books working at the same time, and in various studies. I always came up with a research topic that was unlike anyone elses...hense the title.
Nuff rambling......

Re: WPG shirt and bleach?
I just ordered a L-L WPG shirt which will be my first real Indy. I have a lot of close enoughs. I'm hoping it will be closer to CS in color since that's what I've been collecting.

Re: WPG shirt and bleach?
I'm very happy with my L/L WPG. The color looks pretty close to Raiders, if slightly too dark (i.e. saturated). I might still go with a reg L because mine is a little too long for my liking.
Re: WPG shirt and bleach?
Ian,
the WPG is probably the closest to what is seen in the S.O.C. scenes not the C.S. shirt. It's also a very ...dense shirt. I wouldn't say stiff, but the fabric will need a lot of wear to become the soft, lightweight shirt we would expect. My first run Todd's shirt feels the most like that. His second run is not even as lightweight as the first, as I've compared both.
jlhampton
p.s.- bleach doesn't do any good for any of the shirts, especially Todd's. Color remover didn't even touch mine.

Re: WPG shirt and bleach?
I could not get bleach to work on a WPG shirt. I ended up using six packets of Rit dye remover at once, and stirred it for a really long time.

That was pretty much what i found when trying to do this with an older LLBean.Treadwell wrote:I could not get bleach to work on a WPG shirt. I ended up using six packets of Rit dye remover at once, and stirred it for a really long time.
You need to be careful, because the shirts will shrink if you cook them long enough!
I found a long slow simmer worked best.
And I gotta talk to that webmaster guy... my re-dye page used to be linked off the main page's Shirt link.

I had a custom shirt made for myself and used white material and then Dalexs' dye combo to color it. I'm happy with the results.Indiana Croft wrote:I've done the Dalexs re-dye to some succses,

Re: WPG shirt and bleach?
The color looks off in some weird way.
And I don't recall LLBean ever making their field shirt in a Cotton/Poly blend...
