Probably has been asked a thousand times- cheap whip.
Hey everyone
After looking through numerous posts, wikipedia, and the indygear site I've built up a basic understanding of the kind of whip I should get to finally complete my Raider load out. But after I started looking at the websites it seems near impossible to find a 8 or 10 foot kangaroo leather whip for under $500 (my price limit).
Is there any one who could recommend a "close-as-can-get" bullwhip for that price?

I'd go with the one above, he modeled it after a morgan if i'm correct?
Louie or Del Carpio both are excellent choices but if you don't want to wait that long for a DC then louie's your man.

.
well duh! isn't that what every whip maker does when making a replica Morgan?
Re: Probably has been asked a thousand times- cheap whip.
Most whip makers when replicating a Morgan have certain external requirements they go for when making one. How specific they get varies. Some people sell a "Morgan / Indy" whip that looks nothing like one and should just be called a whip. I wrote a little article a while ago about the spec's that I use for my blog you can read it at: http://bullwhips.org/?p=4673
Very few Morgan / Indy replica bullwhips internally are the same as the way David Morgan makes them. Simply because every whip maker develops different techniques or learned to do things differently. For example a Crease and Corral Indy Bullwhip internally is very different from one from David Morgan. Crease and Corral doesn't use any plaited bellies (according to their website) where David uses two.
The particular whip that I have in stock (http://bullwhips.org/bullwhip_store/vie ... ?groupid=4) is not just externally made like Morgans, it's internally made using the same techniques that David Morgan has shown me when I've visited him as well as what I've learned from a complete rebuild of a Morgan bullwhip. So this bullwhip inside and out is a Morgan replica.
Hope that helps answer any questions.

The next whip I'm making will be constructed, as I've been told, how a Morgan is constructed. How I normally differ from theiwantamorganreelbad1 wrote:Oops, what I meant was he constructed it like a morgan.
morgan design is really only in the core. I make mine longer.

I have a 10' Del Carpio- its a awesome whip. I have a 29'2" Louie Foxx whip-its a howitzer, and I am not talking a 105, its more like 155!!! Now you have a real hard choice to make!!!! Go for it!!!!

That nylon whip has 4 seam pattern on the handle and not the checkerboard, which is one of the Indy whip characteristics. And the buttknot has weird shape. For me it's too pricey. For such a price you can find a lot better whip.

Buy a cheap whip and you'll be disappointed. Save up and buy a good whip so you only have to buy one. Take it from me, who went from jerseyjoe (@#$%) to a Winrich IOAB (better) to a Stenhouse (Much better). I should have just bought the Stenhouse or equivalent at the get-go and I'd have saved money.
