Ordering a Wested Hero - do these measurements sound right?

Post by Obi Sean Kenobi »

Hi all,

Getting ready to pull the trigger on a Wested Hero, and want to hear some thoughts about sizing.

I wear an off the rack 44L in just about everything.

I'm thinking about sleeve length 25" and back length of 26".

Does that sound right to you Wested jacket experts?

Lastly, am I correct in assuming that the seal brown lamb is the most SA color and skin?

Thanks!
Sean

I think you are on with what you want. For a 44R, basically, my Hero was 25 1/2" back, and it was almost too long (for me) for a Raiders jacket, but for a 44L, BL at 26" should be right. Also, sleeve length, this one is 24 1/4" so the extra 3/4" could be considered a long, but dependent upon what you normally wear? Authentic brown lamb, it has been said, was the more SA skin. It looks like the current offering in Crispe is also seal brown, just to compare.

The closest I've come to a perfect fitting jacket for me is my Nowak CS in the Large/Ford's size. The only thing I wished different, would be a little more room in the chest for layering, and a couple extra inches in the sleeves. I stand at about 6' tall and I think I'm a 40 or 42 in a suit. Trying to figure out how to order one of these Wested Hero's and I want to make sure I nail the size right. Going by my description, what should I do? Thanks in advance. Also, considering goat this time out... probably the seal brown, unless there is something more accurate in colour. ;) Thoughts?

As far as sizing is concerned, the best option, and this is what I did, would be to measure yourself and submit those measurements of how you want your jacket to fit to your body. Some people have different sized bodies than others. I measured where I wanted the back length to fall according to what would be considered s.a. to me and not just a standardized size measurement. The same goes for the sleeve length and chest. I gave 'my' measurements and left the rest up to the makers. The jacket I received fits great and the measurements of the jacket were right where I wanted them. That was a nice option to have when ordering the standard hero pattern, but keep in mind, it is a slimmer fit with more freedom of movement due to the cut of the arm holes.

I would go 26" in sleeve length. Of course depends on how long your arms are. As its been said here many times, you can always have the sleeves shortened but never added on to it. Besides the sleeves will develop creases over time and I've heard with Wested, you should add an extra inch.

Just a clarification, the seal brown crispe is NOT the same color as the seal brown lamb. The crispe is not as dark and is more of a warmer tone. The seal brown lamb is REALLY close to the authentic brown lamb, just the slightest bit darker. It is a terrific match to what you see on screen.

Typical correct looking screen accurate Raiders ratios for a Regular 44 fit up to about 6'1" tall and a 34-35 fitted shirt sleeve is a jacket having 25.5-26 inch sleeves with about a 24 inch back. So if you are above 6'1" and have longer reach than that you would be looking at a 44L fit, depending on your torso length you could probably go up to a 26 inch back length and you should be looking at 27+ inches for your sleeve length.
What is your height and typical pants inseam? this will tell us a bit more on your jacket fit needs...
