US Wings Raiders Jacket

Post by Dana Powers »

What do you guys think is the best Raiders Jacket that US Wings makes.

I bought an Antique Cowhide Indy-style Hero Jacket a while back - It looks more like a Last Crusade Jacket. It also has the storm snaps at the top and bottom of the zipper flap.

I just bought a Striated Lambskin "Legend" Jacket (Imported).
I don't know if I like it.
I am considering returning it or exchanging it for a different jacket.
The Vintage Cowhide "Legend" Jacket (USA) looks better to me.

I am trying to get the best SA Raiders Jacket from US Wings.
What do you guys think?

Any help is appreciated.
I only have a little time to make the exchange.

Thanks,
-Dana Powers

I think the one that ends up looking most like the movie jacket is the Imported Legend in Antique Cowhide, particularly after it's had a coat of leather dressing applied.

My two cents: The Legend is supposed to be based on one of the original ROTLA patterns, so it's probably the closest you'll get to "Screen Accurate" from USW. I own a US-made SL and absolutely love it. When it comes to the color, texture, and drape of the hide, I think the the striated lamb really nails the Raiders/Indy look. It's evidently a bit thicker than what was used in the film, but that's not a bad thing as far as I'm concerned. Soooo...I guess what I'm getting at is that if the imported is anything like the domestic version, I think you have the best Raiders-looking jacket you can get from USW. I'm by no means an expert, but I'm sure one of the other gearheads 'round here can probably chime in with a bit more info.

Perhaps I should exchange my Imported for a US made jacket. I wonder how big a difference there is in the jacket. Something just doesn't look right about the imported jacket and you and Weston both have US made ones. I guess I should upgrade my jacket.

Dana,

Could you please post some pics of the jacket?
There has only been one Import SL jacket posted, and it was a prototype.
I'm curious to see the final product.

Heck with +1 let go with +1,000,000.00
I'd love to see what an actual import looks like, all we see it US made, why no imports. Didn't the sell any ?

IMO Todd's costume makes the best Raiders jacket if your looking for SA details. But then agian that's my opinion. The color, the drape, the lightweightness just screams Raiders. Wings is a killer jacket though, espically the Legend!

Daren had one for sale in the CB a while back, so at least they sold 3 of them.

However, the one Daren had for sale looked just Sarge's personal prototype (now owned by RayOnline).
They both sported a "Last Crusade" style collar stand, Wested style x-box strap stitching, and the standard US Wings non-scalloped pocket flaps.
Both were nice looking jackets, but, looked nothing like the Imported cowhides.
(I also agree with Weston, I think the Imported Cowhides ended up being the closest out of the whole Legend line to what the movie jackets looked like.)

I'm curious if Dana's jacket has the same details.

My Legend started with a Raiders look and as it was getting more worn, dry and distressed, also due to the fact that it's naked cowhide, it started looking like the Last Crusade or Crystal Skull jackets, which isn't a bad thing really. I oiled it up last night and it's back to looking like the TN Raiders I like to think. It's the all in one jacket.

By the way, I just went to the opening weekend of the Indiana Jones Exhibit in Montreal with my girlfriend and one of my best buddies and saw the actual Crystal Skull film jacket up close. It's cowhide too but slightly lighter in color maybe cause it was dry or the lighting they used on it gave the hole costume a khaki look. I was thinking it would probably darken up quite a bit with some Pecard's.

yes, many people do use pecards on the TN CS jacket and they turn darker but after a while it dries out and it is right back to light looking...

Agreed. If you missed it, this is a very good thread to read through.

viewtopic.php?f=5&t=43935" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It can include any jacket like the Wings or Wested jackets using the same type hide.

In my opinion, the Legend Striated Lamb Raiders is the best SA jacket USW makes right now. I have the US made one and it's one of my favorites. The fit, details, texture and even the smell of the jacket is incredible! I only wish it was a little thinner to make it more wearable in hotter weather. (but luckily, I have the Todd's jacket for that!)
