Wested still has it!
A trip to England allowed me to drop by the Barn. Picked up a ROLA special in lamb and I was stuck by the pattern, dead ringer for the US Wings Legend but with the pockets in the right proportion. It has been a while since I have seen Peter and have other jackets that I am very happy with. ( custom LC/CS in HH made in 2007, an OTR raider in goat & and a washed lamb raider which I will be selling soon and cheap.)
Naturally we got talking about the US Wings Legend and the challenge to find a good skin. He showed me a lamb based project he is working on with a finished jacket in my size. WOW. Just as impressive as the US Wings Legend, if not more so. Original pattern.
( Please guys no jacket wars on this. I saw what I saw!)
It may be a while before Peter can put this to market, but it will be worth the wait and funds permiting I be first in line. Stunning lamb skin.

IndyBrit,
Does the yoke seam on your new jacket line up with the sleeve seams?
I've been seeing some of the OTR with the seams mis-aligned lately and am wondering if this is a new improvement over the older Wested jackets.

Would be great if wested starting using some SL. I saw a few shots a jacket KT was modelling before the legend came out which had a spot on pattern and a great vintage skin. I understand that he only had enough to make one jacket in that sadly.

Re: Wested still has it!
Today I received email from Peter and he wrote that shrunken leather jackets are still in progress. And if you saw them, that's really cool. I hope they will be available soon. Can't wait!
Please, post pics of your new purchase and of course older jackets as well

That's so funny I thought the same thing this morning when I opened my closet. It really does have a cool smell._ wrote:This is great stuff to hear. I pulled out my old Wested auth lamb raiders today just because it smells so cool.
Of course I still grabbed the USWings Hero jacket to actually wear. It's January after all.

Wow that was fast guys..
Bending Oak and DjD:
What I saw was shrunken lamb with a similar finish to what you see on the US Wings Legeand but Matte/flat, not shiny, it is a very earthly brown. Beautiful grain and markings. The skin also feels more robust then the standard lamb they use. It seems that the biggest challenge is to get the skin right so that a number of jackets can be made. I saw some other prototypes that Peter was not happy with, so it is clear that he is still working on the project. For sure pricing will be higher than his usual offers but not that out of line with other vendors, final price to be fixed.
Kwad
The seam on my OTR is aligned with the yoke.

Yes that smell is something.

The record shows that I am not a fregent poster, but I do check in 3-4 times a week. It just seems that jacket dicussions can get heated, no worries my man
Tomek
I will be back in Warsaw soon we should hook up nest time your in town.

I hope Peter does not mind me posting this news. It is really up to him to post pictures and any news when he is done, it's just that I saw he was really happy with the results he is getting. It was such a pleasure to see this man getting buzz out of this project. As with everything with Wested we will have to wait, it is a small business and Peter is working part time these days. My guess is that when he is done it will be limited runs, no custom work, with numerical sizes. I am lucking as a 42 R fit me well. I hope I have the funds when he is ready!
High regards to all.
Christian.
PS. Will post pics, when A. I figure out how to do it! B. I get back to Poland and can get my CEO to shoot the gear!

Re: Wested still has it!
I'd like to see a picture of one of the new off the racks you're talking about. I tried on some about a year ago and was really blown away when I looked in the mirror. They were so much better than my OTR Rola I had bought. I'm only talking about the fit, not SA specs or anything, with regard to seems, zippers, and collar stands.
Peter showed me one of the old prototypes for his new project then, too. It was the Raiders style hero jacket he was making. The lambskin had a greenish, olive-type patina, if memory serves me correctly and I think he had even sewn in a leather concessionaires label in there. I looked like something I had seen a farmer wearing in Greece one time. He said he couldn't get the collar right, though. I tried it on and it looked really lopsided on one side. He also said the skins were too small to do anything with. If anybody is interested, call him on the phone about it. I'm sure he'd love to talk about it to you.
I saw Peter twice and was always impressed by his enthusiasm about the jackets he was making.
What I wish Peter would get is some sort of vintage, vegetable-tanned horsehide and make it off-the-rack for an extra cost. Maybe even do a real slim fit 80's cut for an extra charge.

Re: Wested still has it!
Great info IndyBrit. I've been hoping Peter would pick up some new hides. I had one of the vegetable tanned lambskin that he used in his bid for the CS job and absolutely loved the leather but it was too light in color. I always hoped he'd get something like that only darker. With the market for a premium hide pushing up around 495.00 I think he could make quite the business of it. He'd have my payment the day he announced it!

Re: Wested still has it!
I really can't see how anyone can top Sarge and his new Legend Striated Lamb, esp. at the price he's selling. This leather is such a work-of-art! I have been wearing this jacket non-stop for the past 30+ hours since getting it!
But hey, if Peter can top it, bring it on!....in this hobby, there's ALWAYS room for another jacket!

Re: Wested still has it!
Peter offered to make me this jacket couple weeks ago. I'm still on the fence if I should take him up on it or not. I think their current Raiders pattern is pretty SA and if you can have them adjust a few things on it? it will be super awesome..
I'll be intrested to see some more pics of them being worn tho

Re: Wested still has it!
IndyBrit a question for you...Is this A) a NEW more SA pattern AND a more SA leather (shrunken lamb)?
or B) the normal Wested 80's cut ROLA in a more SA (shrunken lamb) leather?

Re: Wested still has it!
it's funny. even though we know the jacket is made in some heavy grained skin.. I still just really like plain old authentic lambskin.

Honestly, I was late to the game as far as the screen grab jacket making process happened but I'm just not a fan of the plain skin. I just never looked right to me. My first jacket was Todd's standard (great cut mind you) but the smooth skin always bothered me. I dunno, I just like a little life to my leather. Or better yet a distressed jacket and the wrinkles just add that look. JMO
