Killer deal at Fort Mac.

Post by kwad »

Howdy guys,

Just wanted to show off the gun and holster set I got from Todd's while at the summit.
He had a few boxes outside of his little showroom/tent that were marked clearance, and even though I swore I wouldn't buy anything, I had to take a look.
One box was full of boots (I was told they were all prototyes) going for $10 a pair. They all had different soles/heels than the current production run, but, were very nice and probably more durable.
Another box was full of hats (mainly downtowners) going for as low as $10-20.
The last box was full of props. While digging through it to look at an idol bank, I saw a barrel sticking out. What I pulled up quite suprised me as it was a Tanka made, S&W 38 Scl. with a 4 inch barrel for $40 (average price for Tanka revolvers is about $140-170  ). I had to get it.
While I was paying up, the nice lady runnning the store (I did not catch her name) mentioned that there was a few holsters in the box as well. Checked again, and sure enough, a holster for $5!!

In know I swore I wouldn't buy anything, but, COME ON! $45!!

The holster had a small score on the leather inside of the holster flap and a few scuffs, but nothing major.
Image
I wet molded the holster last night to fit the gun (don't know if it is SA, but I like it), used a little high grit sandpaper to just highlight the highpoints a little and coated it in pecards.
Image
Here you can see the small score (right by the butt of the handle).

Image
The gun is made mostly out of metal (die cast) except for the external barrel which is ABS plastic.
Unfortunately, the orange safety paint on the tip "fell off" while I was giving the gun a bath in acetone. ;)
She said that the gun was marked down as they had did something to the grips (She didn't specify).
Don't know if they are original to the gun, but they appear to be cast resin.

Image
Shot of the other side, showing the cylinder swung out. The gun is fully functional (as in it shoots little plastic BB's, like it should). The gas resevoir and valve system is built completely into the cylinder. The back of the cylinder has non-removable "brass cartriges", one of which has a hole in it to fill the gun with gas. BB's are loaded into the front of the chambers and there is an internal resevoir to hold 6 more shots that automatically reloads the gun for you when a chamber is vacant.

Of course it is a little smaller than a 1917, but, only by a little and it fits the holster quite well.

I won't be distressing the gun as it is too nice. Besides, the paint wears off easily, showing the metal underneath.

Not bad for a close enough Stembridge.

Just after bragging about my score to another member, he went over there and found another one in the box for the same price. Except his had a blued finish! (I'll need to make sure an dig harder next time!!)

You are correct sir! Thank you so much for the heads up! :TOH:

No, box....no ammo, no instructions....but for $40, who cares! He was out of holsters, so I bought one of his $10 prop whips instead. The only defects were that right above the fall the leather was coming apart, the cracker had come off and the the fall was shredded! Replace the fall and cracker?....no problemo, thanks to the Whip Care class I had taken that morning from Midwest Whips! :whip: The repair is another question. I think, since I was only going to use this as a prop whip [for now...I foresee having to buy a Todd's eight footer really soon...see below], so I will let it go after wrapping some leather around the break.

Now for the bad news, my wife confiscated both my new S&W and the prop whip. Then later I had the foresight to go back to Todd's tent just as he was closing down. Got a pair of size 9 boots for $5, a bag strap and weapons belt including hardware for $1 each!

Yeah, they are for the wife too! I owe big thanks to both Canyon and Dejah for this. Next year look out! ;)

Nevada,

My pistol came with a box and all the goodies, but, I forgot it at Todd's booth and didn't remember about it until after we got home. Not a big deal, except, I've read that it came with an adapter that is necessary to properly fill the gas resevoir.
The bad news is, they are hard to find without the gun. ](*,)

I saw your wife walking off with the new whip, still in the bag. She got the pistol too?
Hey, wives need gear too!

I saw the $1 box when we were leaving, but, it was practically picked clean.
Unfortunately, they only had one pair of boots left in size 9. If they would have been 10's, I would have been on them in a flash!

RE: The prop whip... that is exactly what those are. PROPS.
The core of the whip is molded rubber with a leather overlay. They are not designed to be cracked and are prone to failure.
So, I wouldn't worry about fixing it up. I'd just artificially age it and use it for its intended purpose.

Tell your wife that Dr. Wilson from "House" says hello!

Hi Kwad;

She laughed and said to say "Hi"! Yeah, I knew about the rubber core too. Since I want it to look "right", and I need the practice anyway, I will go ahead a "fix" it. That's why I mentioned getting a Todd's 8 footer soon. I think this will be easier on her...and me for her to use a shorter one. That way I can get out of range easier. ;)

Just about all my gear is from Todd's. For guys on a budget, he can't be beat! Of course, I have a feeling a better whip for myself is in the future too!

Man, what a find for $45!

I'll dig around for tutorials on wet moldering a holster, but it would be cool to know step-by-step what you did Kwad.

So, now I know who to beat up for grabbing that holster!

Todd did have some incredible deals in those bargain boxes. I picked up a colt with all accessories for $50!

Oops! My mistake. :Plymouth: I just looked at it, and it's the S&W you have, kwad. Have I mentioned that I'm still recovering from the trip? ](*,) I still have stuff I haven't looked at since I got home.

By the way, is your S&W's coloration sort of brownish?

Well, it has a brownish quality, maybe even a little purple, too. I'm going to see if a treatment of gun oil or cleaner takes care of it. I didn't notice it in the bright sunlight when I bought it, but it's not terrible.

Nope, some were blued (Like NevadaSmith's) and some were flat black, like mine.

By the way, did your's come with the little brass extension tube used to fill the gas chamber?
Mine had a box with all the goodies, but, forgot to grab it when I walked away from the tent ](*,)

If not, they are impossible to find replacements and it is really hard to fill the thing with gas without it. I'm goint to have to make my own.

Yes, mine has it. Why not drop Todd a line? Maybe he's scratching his head, wondering why he has extra parts. It surprises me that you can't get a replacement. I take it that the nozzles that come with the cans are too short?

Yeah, for some reason, the only place to get that little extension is when you buy a Tanaka revolver with the "Pegasus" system (where the air chamber is inside the revolver cylinder).
They do not sell them seperately.

The nozzle on the cans of gas are too short to get a straight shot at the fill valve, so the guns come with the extension.

I should drop Todd an email to see if he has any laying around.
