Covert whipcare help?

Hello all,

I'm at school now (Guilford College, Greensboro NC), and have found out through various channels that "of all the things you don't want to bring to Guilford, a bullwhip is number 1!" Something about a "bullwhip incident" some years back...

Now, I have my 8 foot Stenhouse coiled in my room, and it hasn't been cracked for nearly a month and a half. However, I understand that I need to crack it as part of its maintanance. Exactly how little can I get away with cracking it before problems arise?

On a related note, any idea on how to convince "The Powers That Be" that posessing a whip does not mean I'm a "racially insensitive" sociatal devient? As I see it, a whip is no more of a weapon than a baseball bat; rather it is a tool that can cause injury if misused. At the very least, I'd like to be able to wear my whip for Halloween without fear of expulsion... :evil:

Well, I;d keep it in a tennis racket case or something while on campus. And I definitely wouldn't wear it to an on-campus or camps-sponsered Halloween event. Sorry.

But you might consider finding a park on the other side of town to do your whip practicing.

Yes, parks are great places to go and crack your whip. Fortunately for me, there are several parks in Tucson. I've also cracked my whip on numerous occasions since I've had it on the University of Arizona campus. One time, there was a motorcycle cop right down the street, and he didn't do a thing about it. I guess U of A hasn't had any "bullwhip incidents."

As for the "social deviant" thing...well, lots of people are going to get the wrong idea. When I was out in a park the other day, this guy says "I've been a bad boy!" I just told him something to the effect of, "if that's what you think this is for, you have a pretty sick mind." I love it, though, when people are interested, and I can explain all about Indygear to them. It's a great way to promote our hobby.

I'd take it to a park, also. It's unfortunate that sometimes at a place of higher learning, the powers that be may not be able to open their mind to learning something new. You're right, though, that it's all about the intent. A shoe can be turned into a weapon, if the intent is there. Does that mean that the powers that be should ban shoes on the campus?

What about starting a whip club? I'm sure there is fencing, archery, or martial arts clubs. There were at the University of Washington where I attended school. Just keep trying if it's really that important.

Shooting pistols has always been a hobby of mine.

In Guelph, because of student pressure and protest, there are absolutley NO shooting clubs! I have to go to neighboring Kitchener to shoot; to boot guns are not allowed on campus so I have to rent the firearm at the rang(I don't even know if thats possible).

All in all, a few hours of shooting can easily run over a hundred bucks.

So I have to put that hobby on hold for a while
